Phillies vs. Cardinals Prediction
After snapping their seven-game losing streak on Friday night, can the Cardinals make it two-in-a-row versus the Phillies with a win today?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Cardinals are -220 money line favorites versus the Phillies, who have odds of +175 to pull off the upset in St. Louis today. With Nick Pivetta set to face Carlos Martinez in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 8.5 runs.

From Rotoworld: Pivetta allowed three runs over five innings Monday in beating the Braves for his first big-league victory. Pivetta wasn’t great, but he didn’t need to be after getting nine runs or support through four innings. He deserves a chance to stay in the rotation for a spell, but he’s not a great option in NL-only leagues right now.
Martinez gave up four runs in 6 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Reds. Martinez had a shutout going until the seventh, when the Reds came up with all of their offense for the night and sent Martinez to just his second loss since April. Martinez really should have been the NL Pitcher of the Month after going 4-1 with a 2.03 ERA in 44 1/3 innings in May, but the voters preferred Alex Wood’s 28 innings instead. Martinez is 4-5 with a 3.29 ERA for the season. Tonight’s game was the sixth this year, including the fourth in a row, in which the Cardinals scored two runs or fewer in a Martinez start.
Bet Today’s Phillies vs. Cardinals Game
OUR PREDICTION: After losing seven straight games on the road, the Cardinals returned home on Friday and general manager John Mozeliak shook things up. The team designated Jhonny Peralta for assignment, reassigned third base coach Chris Maloney after a slew of mistakes from the third-base box (i.e. getting runners gunned down at home multiple times in recent weeks), and promoting several minor league coaches to the big-league staff. The Cards needed an outstanding play from Tommy Pham to hold off the Phillies 3-2 last night, but the win seemed to ignite the club. Martinez hasn’t received much run support this season, but Pivetta is allowing nearly two baserunners per inning. If a dormant Cardinal offense should get going today against Pivetta.
