Wednesday MLB Opening Odds
(The Spread) – Check out the opening lines for Wednesday’s MLB action, including the odds for the red-hot Tigers and Braves.
The Detroit Tigers have won five in a row and are now six games up on the White Sox and Indians in the American League Central. The Tigs will have Max Scherzer on the mound tonight at 7:10PM ET when they face the Rays, who are +100 on the money line. Oddsmakers have made the Tigers a –110 money line favorite for tonight.
For one hot team in the AL to one in the NL, the Atlanta Braves will put their six-game winning streak on the line when they travel to Chicago tonight at 8:05PM ET. The Braves are –130 money line favorites with Derek Lowe on the mound, while the Cubs are +120 on the ML. The over/under total for this game has not be released yet.
One team that continues to struggle despite only being two games out of first place is the San Francisco Giants. The defending World Champs are 4-7 in their last 11 games, which includes a loss to the last-place Padres on Tuesday night. The Giants have had opportunities the past two series to beat up on last-place teams and instead have crapped the bed. They’ll try again tonight when Tim Lincecum faces San Diego at 10:15PM ET. Maybe the Giants will consider scoring a run for their ace this time around.
Also in the NL, the Phillies are –185 money line favorites over the Mets, who are +175 on the ML. According to latest MLB trends, the Phillies are just 1-4 in Kyle Kendrick’s last five home starts versus the Mets, who are 0-4 in Mike Pelfrey’s last four starts versus Philadelphia. So something has to give today.
