Making his return from a concussion, Yan Gomes went 3-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and a walk Wednesday in the Cubs’ 10-4 defeat of the Cardinals. Gomes has six homers in 20 games this year. Last year, he had eight in 86 games. The initial plan was for him to split time pretty evenly with Tucker Barnhart this season, but that was always a bad plan. Gomes is clearly the Cubs’ No. 1 catcher at this point. Even while he was out, it seemed like the Cubs preferred young Miguel Amaya to Barnhart.
Minnesota Twins DFS SPIN
Joey Gallo, in a 1-for-28 skid, went 2-for-3 with a double and a bases-loaded walk Thursday as the Twins topped the Padres 5-3. The slumping Gallo hit eighth for the first time this season today. The bases-loaded walk gave him his first RBI since Apr. 26, and it was his first multihit game since Apr. 19. Even with the recent downturn, he still has a fine .871 OPS this season. It just happens to come with a .200 average.
