Cubs to acquire Montero from Backs?
CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – While they await Jon Lester’s decision, the Cubs could be in the process of making a deal for a new catcher.
According to FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi and Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs are discussing a trade with the Diamondbacks involving catcher Miguel Montero. Rosenthal notes that the two sides have been in talks for weeks and that a deal appears to be getting closer.
Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan also reports that the Diamondbacks would receive “low-level” pitching prospects in the trade as Montero is owed $40 million over the next three seasons. With new management taking over in the front office, the D-Backs appear ready to got out from underneath Montero’s contract despite not having a clear replacement on the roster.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Diamondbacks are currently 66/1 to win the 2015 World Series after opening as 100/1 long shots. As for the Cubs, they opened with 18/1 odds but are now 16/1 to win next year’s Fall Classic. They opened with such low odds after hiring Joe Maddon as their manager.
