Senzatela helps Rockies avoid sweep

Antonio Senzatela threw five innings of one-run ball Sunday to earn the win at San Francisco, giving up five hits with five strikeouts and two walks. He also helped his own cause by going 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Colorado had been previously shut out in the first two games of the series. Wade Davis threw a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts for his 40th save of the season. Charlie Blackmon helped lead the offense from the leadoff spot by going 1-for-3 with a double and two walks. Carlos Gonzalez was 1-for-4 with a run, while Ian Desmond finished 2-for-4 with a run. Chris Iannetta walked twice in four plate appearances and scored a run.

Dodgers shut down at Cardinals

After a 17-run outburst the day before and wins in the first two games of the series at St. Louis, Los Angeles’ bats went silent on Sunday Night Baseball yesterday as it fell 5-0. Justin Turner helped pace the offense by going 2-for-4 with a double. Joc Pederson was 1-for-4, while Cody Bellinger finished 1-for-3 with a walk. Yasmani Grandal walked twice in four plate appearances. Ross Stripling suffered the loss as he allowed three earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks over 3 1/3 innings.

Jon Gray (11-7, 4.80 ERA) will start today for Colorado, while Los Angeles turns to Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-3, 2.42).

MLB Betting Trends

Colorado

The under is 7-1 in the last eight Rockies road games. Colorado is 11-2 in Gray’s last 13 starts.

Los Angeles

The Dodgers are 7-3 in their last 10 home games. Los Angeles is 10-4 in Ryu’s last 14 home starts.

Prediction:

This should be a closely contested game, but with the Dodgers having played last night and Colorado traveling a shorter distance from San Francisco I like the underdogs to notch the upset here. Gray usually gives the Rockies a good chance to win and has been good more times than bad since a brief stay in the minors earlier this season.
