Tigers losers of five straight
The Tigers haven’t seen the field since Friday because of rain. Prior to that they lost their last five games. Detroit is just 4-9 on the season and 1-5 at home. The Tigers are putting up 3.77 runs per game this season while allowing 4.46 per contest.
Francisco Liriano is taking the mound for the Tigers today to make his third start. He is 1-1 thus far with a 2.13 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. Liriano has allowed three runs over 12.2 innings of work and has seven strikeouts with five walks.
Orioles also losing
Baltimore isn’t coming in with much momentum either. The Orioles have lost three straight after being swept in Boston. They also have dropped five of their last six games. Baltimore is now 5-11 on the season and 3-7 on the road. The Orioles are averaging just 3.19 runs per game this season while allowing 5.38 per contest.
Andrew Cashner is making his fourth start today. He is 1-1 through three starts with a 2.50 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. After allowing five runs to the Twins in his first start, he has given up just one run over his last 13 innings of work. On the season, he has 16 strikeouts with eight walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles have now lost 30 of their last 39 games dating back to last season. They also have lost five straight Tuesday games and eight of their last 10 against a left-handed starter.
Detroit
The Tigers are just 16-36 in their last 52 home games and 5-16 in their last 21 games on a Tuesday. Detroit is also 6-20 in its last 26 series openers.
Prediction:
Both teams are really struggling and have had some poor pitching with lackluster hitting. Still, on average, the Tigers are scoring just a little bit more and allowing a little bit less. Liriano has pitched well so far and Cashner has looked good in recent starts. I think the Tigers will find a way to produce some runs on Cashner in a low-scoring game in the cold.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers -115
