Zack Godley (8-7, 3.00 ERA) will get the start for Arizona, while San Diego will counter with Travis Wood (3-6, 6.80). Godley has a 1.08 WHIP with 152 strikeouts over 144 innings. He surrendered only five hits and struck out seven with no walks over eight shutout innings in a 7-0 home win over the Rockies his last start. Godley has a 2.97 ERA in 72 2/3 road innings. Wood holds a 1.79 WHIP with 60 strikeouts in 83 1/3 innings. He has been obliterated his last two starts, giving up a combined 15 earned runs on 16 hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings as the Padres were crushed 8-4 at home against the Cardinals and 16-0 at the Twins. Wood has a 5.26 ERA in 51 1/3 home innings.

Arizona enters with an 87-64 record and are 39-37 on the road, while San Diego is 67-83 and 40-35 at home. The D-backs have won six of the last 10 meetings and the total has gone over seven times.

In the series opener Monday night, Hunter Renfroe hit a three-run homer in the first inning to propel the Padres to a 4-2 victory. Austin Hedges also hit a home run. Luis Perdomo gave up two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings to get the win. Brad Hand earned his 19th save. David Peralta and J.D. Martinez each had a double and an RBI for Arizona. Patrick Corbin allowed four earned runs in five innings to take the loss.

Bet on Diamondbacks vs. Padres

Godley has been nothing short of a godsend for Arizona, deepening the pitching staff along with the emergence of Corbin. He should be able to shut down a Padres lineup dominated with right-handed bats prone to strikeouts. And what is there to say about Wood? He’s been abysmal lately and while he gets a ballpark bump at home, that’s about all he has going for him. Take the Diamondbacks by multiple runs.
