Mariners 2012 MLB Season Odds
(The Spread) – Runs were at a premium last year for the Seattle Mariners, which is why they decided to trade one of their promising pitchers for a bat this winter.
According to oddsmakers the Mariners are currently 100/1 long shots to win the 2012 World Series and are 50/1 to win the American League Pennant this season. They’re also 25/1 to win the American League West and carry an over/under of 71.5 for number of total wins in the regular season.
The biggest move Seattle made this past winter was acquiring catcher/DH Jesus Montero and starter Hector Noesi for right-hander Michael Pineda and starter Jose Campos. They also sent catcher John Jaso to the Rays for Josh Lueke, and claimed reliever Lucas Luetge from the Brewers in the Rule 5 draft.

As usual, the M’s offseason signings weren’t very inspiring. They signed Hisashi Iwakuma to a one-year, $1.5 million contract and beefed up their bullpen with the additions of George Sherrill, Shawn Camp and Hong-Chih Kuo. But Camp and Kuo have since been released, so strike their names from the list of additions.
OUTLOOK: The Mariners did a nice job adding some depth to the pitching staff but this team isn’t likely to contend with the Angels (who added Albert Pujols) and the Rangers (who are just as strong as they were in 2010 and 2011 when they made the World Series) in the NL West. Seattle just doesn’t have the bats, although adding Montero should certainly help. At least Mariner fans still get to watch Felix Hernandez pitch every fifth day or so.
