White Sox 2012 Offseason Odds
(The Spread) – After being aggressive at the trade deadline the past couple of years, the White Sox decided to take a less aggressive approach to their offseason this past winter.
According to oddsmakers, the White Sox are currently 80/1 to win the 2012 World Series and 40/1 to win the American League Pennant this year. They’re also 15/1 to win the American League Central and carry and over/under for total regular season wins of 74.5.
It would appear as though GM Kenny Williams either chose to, or had to dial things back this past winter after trading/signing Alex Rios and Jake Peavy the past couple of years. The club acquired RHP Myles Jaye and RHP Daniel Webb from the Blue Jays in exchange for RHP Jason Fraso, and also agreed to terms with first baseman Dan Johnson (minor league deal) and outfielder Kosuke Fukudome (one year).

What’s more notable is the players that the Sox lost this offseason. Gone are Frasor, Mark Buehrle, Juan Pierre, Carlos Quentin, Sergio Santos and Omar Vizquel. The decision not to retain these veterans is an indication that Williams is trying to rebuild.
OUTLOOK: The White Sox don’t play in a particularly tough decision although the Tigers are absolutely stacked and the Royals are soaked in potential. There’s just not a lot to love about the Sox, who better get decent production out of guys like Peavy, Rios and Adam Dunn if they want to compete. (Obviously Paul Konerko needs to keep producing in the middle of their lineup as well.) Their projected lineup doesn’t feature one player that hit for .300 last year so you have to wonder if the Sox have enough tools to compete, especially with a team as loaded as the Tigers.
