World Series Game 7 Odds
(The Spread) – After an epic collapse in Game 6, the Rangers find themselves as underdogs versus the Cardinals for Game 7 of the 2011 World Series on Friday night.
Down to their final strike in the ninth and 10th innings, respectively, the Cardinals staged two rallies and wound up winning Game 6 on Thursday night thanks to a David Freese walkoff home run in the bottom of the 11th. It was a game marred with errors (five) and sloppy play from both sides, but the contest will also go down as one of the most exciting games in MLB history.
The biggest question heading into Game 7 is how will Texas respond after having the wind sucked out of them the night before. They held leads of 3-2, 4-3, 7-4 and 9-7 before eventually losing 10-9 in extra innings. As previously mentioned, they had the Cardinals down to their final strike twice and couldn’t shut the door.
Heading into Game 7, the Rangers find themselves as +127 money line underdogs versus St. Louis, which opened as a -135 favorite. (At some books the Cardinals are already up to -138 on the money line.) Matt Harrison will take the ball for Texas, while Chris Carpenter will presumably take the hill for the Cardinals one last time. (As of this writing the Cardinals haven’t made a decision on a starter, but the assumption is that Carpenter will take the hill on three days rest.)
Harrison, if you’ll remember, allowed five runs on six hits in a disastrous Game 3 performance that saw him pulled after just 3.2 innings of work. The Rangers went on to lose that game 16-7 before rebounding to win Games 4 and 5 in Texas before returning to St. Louis on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, Carpenter won Game 1 and took a no decision in Game 5 after allowing just two runs on six hits over 7.0 innings. Tony La Russa was questioned for pulling Carpenter after the ace had thrown just 101 pitches, but now it looks like that potential screw up will help the Cardinals as they’ll have their No. 1 for the most important game of the season.
First pitch for tonight’s Game 7 is set for 8:05PM ET and can be seen on FOX.
