Angels held to five hits
Los Angeles was shut out on five hits Wednesday night at Oakland to drop to 65-75 overall and 30-41 on the road. David Fletcher led the Angels offense from the leadoff spot as he finished 2-for-4. Matt Thaiss was 1-for-2 with a double, while Albert Pujols ended the game 1-for-3 with a double. Patrick Sandoval took the loss as he allowed one earned run on one hit with three strikeouts and one walk over 3 1/3 innings pitched. Luke Bard draws the start today for LA as he enters with an 1-2 record, 5.09 ERA and 1.33 WHIP plus 26 strikeouts over 35 1/3 innings pitched.
Roark, home runs lift A’s
Oakland posted a 4-0 victory Wednesday night at home over Los Angeles to improve to 80-58 overall and 45-26 at home. Tanner Roark earned the win as he allowed five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over 6 2/3 shutout innings. Jurickson Profar and Sean Murphy helped pace the Athletics offense as they both finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run. It was the first career MLB hit for Murphy. Marcus Semien was 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. Brett Anderson gets the start today for Oakland as he comes in with an 11-9 record, 4.04 ERA and 1.30 WHIP plus 77 strikeouts across 156 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Angels are 3-15 in their last 18 road games. Los Angeles is 1-8 in its last nine games versus the AL West.
Oakland
The A’s are 4-0 in their last four Thursday games. Oakland is 0-4 in the last four Anderson home starts.
Prediction:
Anderson has dominated in two starts against the Angels this season, not giving up a run over 13 2/3 innings. But things can change in a hurry in the MLB and with the Angels desperate for a win, the contact-heavy Anderson is capable of a bad outing any given day. Bard and the bullpen will have their work cut out, but I am betting on LA winning a close one here.
