– Early College Football
Tuesday, Oct 27
WESTERN KENTUCKY over Delaware by 6
It’s a fact: your partner will put up with your watching televised football for six straight nights a week – Wednesday through Monday – but NOT on the seventh. That day is reserved for domestic tasks, relationship building, etc., so don’t expect to watch football on Tuesday nights without some pushback. Most would say, “no problem.” What if we told you, though, that there are three more weeks of Tuesday night football to wrestle over after the smoke clears tonight? Time to seize control of the TV remote for the remaining ‘first nights’ of a new football week. It all starts here at 7 p.m. ET at Houchens-Smith Stadium (“The Houch”) in Bowling Green, KY, with a matchup between a pair of 3-4 CUSA squads who are running out of time to become bowl-eligible (both programs qualified in 2025). Sensing the importance of tonight’s clash, WKU fans and players have planned a ‘Red Out’ for the telecast, with the Hilltoppers breaking out their viral Big Red uniforms. It’s been quite a comeback for head coach Tyson Helton’s Toppers after a grueling early schedule heavy on road games left them at 0-3. But Western Kentucky caught fire with three wins in its previous four games, the last two in dominant fashion over Missouri State, 34-13, and Sam Houston, where the defense held the Bearkats out of the end zone for a 16-3 victory. WKU is coming off a bye, while Delaware destroyed Mo State last week, 61-38. Blue Hens’ QB Nick Minicucci continues to climb the school record books, as his performance against the Bears moved him to 6th all-time in career passing yards (6,045) and 3rd in career passing TDs (48). Will Minicucci’s hot hand directing UD’s explosive passing attack be the difference here? Or will it be Helton’s recent string of successes at The Houch, where WKU has won 13 of its last 15 games? We’ll side with a loud home crowd and a Hilltoppers ‘D’ that’s allowed just 23 total points in its three recent wins. When it’s done, don’t forget to hide the remote.MISSOURI STATE over Sam Houston State by 8
While not as compelling as tonight’s opener at Bowling Green, this clash between CUSA bottom-feeders should eliminate the loser from post-season consideration. Sam Houston (1-6, 0-3) travels to Springfield seeking its first conference win of the season, while head Bearkat Phil Longo is fighting for his head-coaching job after a horrible 3-16 record since inheriting a team that finished 10-3 in 2024. Missouri State hasn’t experienced such a total collapse, but the Bears have been bashed, dropping four of their last five games. Sam Houston boasts one of the nation’s better pass defenses (No. 3 in the nation) and has improved dramatically on defense year-over-year, allowing roughly 142 fewer yards per game than in 2025. The problem is an offense that ranks No. 118. On the flip side, Missouri State’s defense has been porous, ranking near the bottom of the FBS in yards and points allowed (around 438 total yards and 35 points per game). This is the first meeting between the programs as FBS/CUSA members; their last game was in 2006, when Sam Houston won 20-17. With the Bears having lost just one game this season at Robert Plaster Stadium, look for the home-field edge to exploit the Bearkats’ 5-15 ATS failure in games they lose outright. All of which means SHSU’s Longo should start looking NOW for a competent Huntsville realtor to handle the sale of his property before the axe finally falls.Wednesday, Oct 28
Kennesaw State over MIDDLE TENN STATE by 3
This is the first of tonight’s ‘OCCUPY CUSA’ doubleheader, commemorating that all four games leading off Tuesday and Wednesday this week feature Conference-USA programs. In fact, eight of the loop’s ten members will be done with their business for the week when the JSU-NMSU game goes final. Meanwhile, we’re waiting for the REAL Kennesaw State football team to please stand up. Second-year head coach Jerry Mack opened his tenure last season by finishing 10-4 and winning the CUSA Championship game against Jacksonville State. This year? It’s been a first-to-worst season for Mack, as his Owls are tied with Sam Houston for last place in the loop with a dreadful 1-6 / 0-3 record in 2026. Not so for the 4-3 Blue Raiders, who are fighting to shake off three straight losing campaigns and return MTSU to its first bowl game since 2022. Their hopes rest on quarterback Ryan Gagliano, who has completed 38 of his last 59 pass attempts for 491 yards and 4 touchdowns, and RB Terrence Brown, who rushed for 198 yards on his last 25 carries, almost 8 yards a pop. Kennesaw counters with QB Rickie Collins, who is completing 69% of his passes, and a head coach desperate to keep his record at KSU above .500. The double-fisted killer, though, comes from MTSU’s 0-13 ATS disaster after facing Florida International and a 0-12 ATS failure when playing off a SU dog win. Take the points.
NEW MEXICO STATE over Jacksonville State by 6
A top-of-the-standings Conference USA clash hits Las Cruces as unbeaten-in-league Jacksonville State visits New Mexico State. The Gamecocks (5-2, 3-0 CUSA) bring a four-game winning streak into Aggie Memorial Stadium, while NMSU (3-4, 2-1 CUSA) is coming off a 30-24 road win at Sam Houston. Aggies head coach Tony Sanchez is fighting for his life thanks to his current 10-21 overall record, but a win tonight would level New Mexico State at .500 for the first time since opening last year with a 3-3 effort. JSU has been a run-first team since entering the FBS in 2023, averaging 245 ground yards per game, but that number has dropped to 150 YPG in 2026 thanks to a more balanced offense under dual-threat QB Caden Creel: 1,637 passing yards for 12 TDs, plus 500 rushing yards and 4 TDs on 105 carries. It’s ground-and-pound for the Aggies this season, as RB James Jones leads New Mexico State with 777 rushing yards on 119 carries (6.5 ypc) and 4 TDs – one of the better individual rushing efforts in CUSA this year. Jacksonville State won the last meeting between these two at home in 2024, 54-13, and their superior conference record makes the Gamecocks the clear favorite here. But the Aggies’ home-field advantage and strong run defense figure to keep this one close and maybe even propel them to the outright upset win. We’ll take whatever JSU is giving pointwise and ride New America State – sorry, New Mexico State – straight to the pay window.Thursday, Oct 29
JAMES MADISON over Troy by 10
Jimmy Mad finally tasted defeat in the 2026 season when the 7-0 Dukes were ambushed at Appalachian State last week. Favored by 12.5 points over the home dog Mountaineers, JMU led 21-13 after three periods but couldn’t stop a fourth-quarter comeback by the boys from Boone, sending the game to overtime. James London’s walk-off 40-yard field goal closed out the 34-31 victory, which could prove to be a damaging loss for the Dukes. James Madison was the No. 12 seed in last year’s College Football Playoff field, and they entered the ASU game with an edge over Boise State for the best chance to return to the CFP from the Group of 6 teams this season. However, the Broncos’ edge has widened after JMU’s loss to the Mountaineers. Jimmy Mad’s strength of schedule entering the game was 131st out of 138 teams – compared to Boise State at No. 59. After tonight’s contest, the Dukes will face three beatable foes in Southern Miss (2-5), UConn (4-3), and Coastal Carolina (2-5), so the mantra in this game will be No More Slip-ups. Troy looks like a suitable candidate to provide a JMU bounce-back here, as the Trojans have struggled offensively, ranking near the bottom of the FBS in passing (176.4 YPG, 124th) and scoring (22.9 PPG). The Dukes are 3-0 SUATS in games after their first loss of the season, running away by an average score of 42-11. But here’s the rub… James Madison finds itself in the dreaded role of ‘Bubble Burst’ fade. Yes, teams having a perfect season spoiled don’t always regain their SU/ATS swagger the following week, and they perform even worse when made a home favorite. Look, we know Troy has zero chance of winning this game, but if you’re looking to cash a ticket, the 21-point line leaves a lot of wiggle room.NORTH TEXAS over Florida Atlantic by 18
A pair of 5-2 teams square off to move up the American Conference food chain. North Texas gets to brag about the better record, as they’re a perfect 3-0 in league play, while FAU sits at 2-1. Based on current season stats, this could easily degenerate into a Colorado State-style track meet. Our guys in the desert opened the Over-Under auction at 72.5; it has since climbed to 77. North Texas ranks among the nation’s best offensively: 525.7 yards per game (4th in FBS) and 43.1 points per game (2nd). Quarterback Tayven Jackson has been outstanding for the Mean Green, accounting for 2,173 passing yards, 18 TDs, 5 INTs, and a 72.4% completion rate. Florida Atlantic also does its best to entertain the offensively minded, gaining 428.1 YPG while putting 37.3 PPG on the scoreboard. The big reveal is that both programs “are still searching for a defensive identity.” North Texas gives up 33.3 PPG and 466 YPG, while Florida Atlantic allows 38 PPG and 400 YPG. The Owls get a black eye in the rush defense comparison, though, as they rank near the bottom of the FBS in rushing defense (258.3 yards allowed per game, 137th). The Green have yet to lose in Denton this season, and they have sufficient firepower on offense to cover the 13.5-point line. Lay it if you play it. -

Miami Florida vs. North Carolina 7:30 pm. est.Mario Cristobal is the ultimate CEO type and what works in his favor is the Hurricane Athletic Department spends money on transfers like its happy hour forever. Cristobal is a line coach and a recruiter and until last season Playoff run to the National Championship Game. His success on the field had been underwhelming in Miami and he had never had back-to-back (10)-win seasons. Miami has never won the ACC and coach Mario Cristobal’s team is now the favorite and also ranked #1 in the nation heading to Chapel Hill. HC Bill Belichick is now the man in charge at North Carolina. However, for a North Carolina program that has struggled to consistently win at a high level, taking the opportunity to hire arguably the greatest coach in NFL history is a no-brainer. Year One under Bill Belichick was a colossal dud. North Carolina’s five-year bowl streak snapped, and Chapel Hill was left searching for answers.

ParticipantJust thought I’d enter my worthless opinion on these “perfect” records that get claimed. Most of the time, a 24-0 on 27-3 claim is NOT the capper’s recent run but it’s the record of the scenario of the pick. Meaning, the capper isn’t 24-0, but the Rams are in a SITUATION that is 15-0. Maybe something like, coming off a Thursday night home loss as a favorite and now they’re at home again as a dog vs a team off a road win…or whatever the scenario is. However, that FIVE-STAR 18-0 run sounds like a line of BS. Anyway, hope everyone kills it today.

perfect system play?Re: ML & Los Angeles Chargers
He has a couple stats in there about Chargers 8-0 ats non-conference road dog and also 15-1 ats off a bye if they won 7 or more pervious year. There is also a system of teams who are 20-2 ats if they are off a bye and have no wins and at least 5 losses. I think both non covers failed by 1 point. Millionaire – Miami +7NFL best bets for Week 8: Tough to love ’dogs at short numbers
LV REVIEW JOURNAL SUBSCRIPTION
Matt Youmans VSINIf the Indianapolis Colts are not completely tanking and waving a white flag on the season, they are doing something close to it.
After firing general manager Chris Ballard in mid-October, Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon scribbled two trades on her notebook, sending offensive guard Quenton Nelson to Seattle and defensive lineman DeForest Buckner to San Francisco. With the NFL’s trade deadline looming on Nov. 10, she’s probably not done.
Ballard was embarrassingly bad at his job and should have been dumped long ago. The next star to go could be running back Jonathan Taylor. Indianapolis (2-5) is in obvious need of a franchise quarterback and enters a rebuilding phase.
The Colts are 10-point underdogs at Jacksonville on Sunday, and this ’dog player will pass. Here are my best bets for Week 8:
Las Vegas Raiders at New York Jets (-1.5)
It could be time for Kirk Cousins to win or get benched, although the quarterback position is not the problem for the Raiders. Cousins is tied for the league lead with 16 touchdown passes and ranks fourth in passing yards with 1,877. He’s not getting much help from his running backs and the line is underperforming.
Las Vegas has slipped defensively, and if that continues don’t be surprised if end Maxx Crosby is mentioned in trade talks. The Raiders’ defensive decline has been no surprise considering their past four games (all losses) were against the Rams, Bills, Patriots and Chiefs — teams with elite quarterbacks.
The Jets, led by a clueless coach and clumsy quarterback, represent a significant step down in class for Las Vegas. I like the ’dog, but it’s tough to love the ’dog at such a short number.
Best Bet: Raiders +7.5 with Broncos +7.5 on a six-point teaser.
Kansas City Chiefs (-1.5) at Denver Broncos
The Denver defense has improved dramatically since Week 1, when Kenneth Walker debuted for Kansas City by rushing for 173 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. The Broncos, blown out 31-10 in the opener, have allowed 15.7 points during a three-game win streak.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are reeling after totaling only 11 first downs and 213 yards in a 20-3 loss at Seattle. Denver’s defensive front has cranked up the pressure on opposing quarterbacks, and Mahomes is working behind a mediocre line and not getting many big plays from his wide receivers.
Divisional underdogs are 23-10 against the spread this season, and the Broncos are among seven in that role this week. The Mahomes-Bo Nix showdown should be a slowdown type of game. I prefer the home ’dog on a teaser instead of taking the short number. I rarely play two-team teasers anymore because of the high prices, but will make an exception.
Best Bet: Chiefs-Broncos Under 40.5; and Broncos +7.5 with Raiders +7.5 on a six-point teaser (-140)
Three more plays for Sunday:
Bills -3 vs Ravens
Cardinals +7 at Cowboys
Chargers +6.5 at Rams
NFL Week 8 predictions:
Ravens, Lions, Chargers in favorable spots
LV REVIEW JOURNAL SUBSCRIPTION
Wes Reynolds VSINHere are my NFL Week 8 best bets:
Baltimore Ravens (+3) at Buffalo Bills
No one expected the Baltimore Ravens to be sitting in last place in the AFC North, but that is where they are. However, they are getting Lamar Jackson back after missing three games with a high ankle
No one should be more excited to have Lamar back than Derrick Henry, who has had his two lowest rushing outputs (17 carries, 56 yards at Cleveland; 17 carries, 45 yards vs. Cincinnati) in the last two games. That is barely over three yards per carry. However, if there was ever a time for a struggling offense to get right, it is against this Bills defense.
Buffalo is off its bye. Josh Allen is the rightful MVP favorite. He has to be, because his defense ranks dead last in EPA, 30th in Success Rate, 29th in EPA/Pass, 31st in Pass Success Rate, and 25th in EPA/Rush. Only four teams (Washington, Detroit, Las Vegas, and Arizona) have allowed more TD passes than the Buffalo defense.
The Bills offense is certainly explosive — No. 1 in scoring (32.8 ppg) and No. 1 in EPA — but the one game where it struggled was against the Chargers. In that game, Buffalo scored 24 (a late one tacked on with the Chargers giving them a short field late) but allowed four sacks and turned it over five times. The Chargers run essentially the same scheme as the Ravens with Jesse Minter, who was Chargers DC, now as the Baltimore head coach.
Jackson is 9-1-1 against the spread in his career as an underdog of three points or less. This is a huge game for the Ravens to keep pace in its own division.
Detroit Lions (-3.5) vs. Minnesota Vikings
The Lions moved up to -3.5 last week and did not end up covering vs. the Packers in a 20-17 victory but were the clear better side. Detroit had a 26-to-17 first-down edge, a 415-to-324 yard edge, and forced Jordan Love to drop back 46 times.
Meanwhile, Minnesota moved on to 6-0 and is now the NFL’s lone remaining unbeaten team. However, they were not sharp in a 16-10 victory over an Indianapolis team that is starting to sell anything that is not bolted down. The Vikings defense is still elite with its 69 percent blitz rate that has led to being No. 1 in EPA/Play and No. 1 in Success Rate. On the other hand, the offense continues to struggle as it ranks No. 29 in EPA/Play and No. 31 in Success Rate.
Although Detroit can be prone to giving up big plays, Minnesota has not shown the ability to take advantage even against weaker defenses like Miami and Indianapolis.
Minnesota also has had some kicking game issues as Will Reichard missed two field goals last week.
A 6-0 team can never be called a bad team, but the Vikings have been on borrowed time, and eventually this defense will have to break, and Jared Goff has been the best starter per EPA against the blitz this season. If Detroit gets out to a lead, Minnesota will struggle to play catch up.
Los Angeles Chargers +6.5 at Los Angeles Rams
The Chargers officially became the last winless team last week with Miami’s win over the Jets. If ever there was a team that needed a bye week, it was the Chargers.
The Bolts are the first team since the 2011 Rams to go winless ATS through six games and score under 24 points in each of those games. The offense ranks dead last in points per game, EPA/play, and Success Rate. Justin Herbert ranks 34th among the 34 quarterbacks to have 100 or more dropbacks with a 44.5 grade per PFF.
Perhaps the week off allowed them to regroup and do some soul searching. One would expect that the Chargers would at least come out with a solid effort here.
On the other side, the Rams stopped a losing streak with a 35-21 victory in Las Vegas after losing two straight games. Now the schedule eases up a bit with the Chargers and then road games at Washington and Arizona before the Week 11 bye.
Although it was a win, the Rams caught the Raiders on the back end of a brutal stretch of the schedule, having to play Kansas City, New England, and Buffalo in back-to-back-to-back weeks. The Rams are not suddenly the elite team they were projected to be before the season began. They have issues, especially stopping the run, and they are just 28th in Success Rate. The Chargers are also expected to have tackle Joe Alt back to help their banged-up offensive line.
Sometimes I am as guilty as anyone reading too much into a line, but this has stayed at 6.5 all week and was actually 7 on the lookahead number. Who is cutting in line to bet the Chargers? Things that make you go hmmm.

Las Vegas Raiders at New York Jets: The Raiders have covered three of their past four road games and six of their past eight overall since late last season. They have also gone over the total in their past five games and are 9-4 to the over since late 2025. The Jets are on an 8-5 over run since late last season. Edge: Over and a slight lean to the Raiders, based on totals and team trends.
Baltimore at Buffalo: The Bills have won both meetings at home over the past two seasons, including a 2024 divisional-round playoff victory, with the combined margin of victory totaling just three points. Both of those meetings went over the total, and Buffalo is 10-2-1 to the over since late 2025. The Ravens are 7-3 to the over since late 2025. Edge: Over, based on totals trends.
Tennessee at Cincinnati: Note that four of the Titans’ six losses this season have been by six points or fewer, though they are just 3-4 against the spread overall. The Bengals are 1-4 against the spread in their past five games this season while going over the total in three of their past four outings. Edge:Slight lean to the over, based on totals trends.Arizona at Dallas: The Cardinals won and covered in a 27-17 road upset in this matchup last November. Arizona is 3-1 against the spread on the road this season (0-3 at home), and road teams are 6-1 against the spread in Cardinals games. The Cowboys are 1-5 against the spread in their past six games as favorites at home. Dallas is also on a 10-2-1 over run since late 2025. Edge: Cardinals and over, based on team and totals trends.
Minnesota at Detroit: The Vikings had lost five straight and failed to cover eight consecutive games against the Lions before sweeping last season’s series. Minnesota is 6-0 straight up but only 4-2 against the spread this season and has gone under the total in its past five games of 2026. The Lions are just 2-5 against the spread at Ford Field since late 2025. Edge: Slight lean to the Vikings and under, based on recent and totals trends.
Cleveland at Pittsburgh: The home team has covered 10 straight games in this AFC North rivalry, including the Browns’ 27-24 win in Cleveland on Oct. 1. The Steelers have won and covered three straight games and four of their past five this season. Edge:Steelers, based on home-field series trends.
Atlanta at Tampa Bay: The road team has covered the last three meetings and five of the past six. Visiting teams are also 5-1 against the spread in Falcons games this season. The Buccaneers are 0-4 against the spread at home in 2026 and 0-9 against the number in their past nine games at Raymond James Stadium since mid-2025. Tampa Bay is also on a hard-to-believe 1-15 against-the-spread skid since mid-2025. Edge: Falcons, based on team trends.Indianapolis at Jacksonville: The Jaguars have won 10 straight games outright against the Colts, covered 11 of the last 13 meetings since 2019, and the Colts have lost 11 straight as the visiting team in the series, including 10 straight in Jacksonville and one in London as the designated visitor. Indianapolis has, however, covered five of its past six road games. The Jaguars have won and covered their past six games at EverBank Stadium since mid-2025. Edge:Jaguars, based on team and series trends.
Los Angeles Chargers at Los Angeles Rams: The Chargers are 0-9 straight up and 0-8-1 against the spread since late 2025. They are also on a 10-1-1 under streak. Edge: Rams and under, based on recent and totals trends.
Kansas City at Denver: After winning eight straight games outright at Denver from 2015-22, Andy Reid has lost and failed to cover in three consecutive trips to Mile High since Sean Payton arrived in Denver in 2023. The Chiefs’ 16-game series winning streak was snapped in 2023, and they have failed to cover their past five trips to Denver. The last seven meetings have gone under the total. The Broncos are 17-1 straight up at home since mid-2024. Edge: Broncos and under, based on team and totals trends.
New England at Miami: The Patriots won and covered at Miami last season but had previously lost and failed to cover in eight straight visits to Hard Rock Stadium. New England is just 1-3-1 against the spread in its past five road games. The Dolphins have covered their past three games this season. The Patriots are on a 4-0 over run, and the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings of the series. Edge: Over and Dolphins, based on totals and extended series trends.
Philadelphia at Washington: The past four meetings in the series have gone over the total. The Eagles are on a 1-8 against-the-spread slide since late 2025, while the Commanders are on an 8-2 over run. Edge:Over and Commanders, based on totals and recent trends.
Chicago at Seattle (Monday): With Caleb Williams in the lineup, the Bears are 5-2 against the spread in their past seven road games and 10-4 overall against the number since mid-2025. Chicago is also 8-3 as an underdog since early 2025. The Seahawks are just 2-4-1 against the spread this season. Edge: Bears, based on team trends.
