WASHINGTON @ COLORADO | 05/04 | 8:40 PM EDT
COLORADO -137
ANALYSIS: Wednesday game. I don't often recommend picking MLB games this early as lineups are obviously important but as long as it remains Patrick Corbin vs. Austin Gomber, I'm on the Rockies early at this very cheap price. I don't know what has happened to the Nats' Corbin, who used to be great but has been a different guy since the shortened COVID season. He's 0-4 with an 8.69 ERA this year. Gomber isn't exactly Cy Young but comes off back-to-back quality starts and is 5-2 with a 2.61 ERA at Coors Field in his two seasons with Colorado. I'm simply going to take the Rockies all year (until proven wrong) as short home favorites against bad teams or at +1.5 on the runline against good ones.

TAMPA BAY @ TORONTO | 05/04 | 7:30 PM EDT
TORONTO -120ANALYSIS: While I expect the two-time defending champs to play a lot better in Game 2, I just don't think the Bolts are the same this year after two long, draining playoff runs. Reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed five goals on 34 shots in Game 1 after an inconsistent regular season. Toronto is simply better, maybe shook a playoff monkey in the opener and apparently will get rookie Michael Bunting and his 63 points back from injury in Game 2 on Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES @ EDMONTON | 05/04 | 10:00 PM EDT
EDMONTON -190
ANALYSIS: Maybe I'm a sucker, but I'm going back to Edmonton in Game 2 on Wednesday despite being scorched Monday (my only wrong pick of the night) in their 4-3 home loss. They were 2-for-4 on the power play, killed off all four Kings power plays and outshot L.A. Once the Oilers tied the game 3-3 in the second, I was very confident they were going to win. If they lose again here, it's mental after being swept in the first round of the 2021 playoffs by Winnipeg and also being upset in the 2020 qualifying round by Chicago.

PITTSBURGH @ DETROIT | 05/04 | 1:10 PM EDT
DETROIT -149
ANALYSIS: Reasonable price on the Tigers at home in Game 1 of the DH (although they actually have a worse record than Pittsburgh) behind Michael Pineda (1-1, 3.60 ERA). It's Bryse Wilson as the primary for the Bucs after opener Dillon Peters, and Wilson has a 7.71 ERA in two road starts. Detroit's bullpen is also much better, leading the majors with a 1.97 ERA. The Tigers are resting Miguel Cabrera in Game 1, but that doesn't bother me. The Bucs have a few backups in. I don't often recommend no runs first inning props, but I do here because of Pineda against a weak lineup and the Pirates giving Peters the openers' role. In 13.1 innings this year, he hasn't allowed a run.

BOSTON @ CAROLINA | 05/04 | 7:00 PM EDT
CAROLINA -120
ANALYSIS: Tough day on the NHL playoffs Tuesday as the Panthers did something they basically never did in the regular season in losing when leading in the third period, and the Rangers in my opinion wrongly had the likely game-winning goal late in the third vs. Pittsburgh waived off and eventually lost in triple OT. Whatever. I honestly would like to take the puckline here on the Bruins as I expect a much better effort in Game 2, but I'm not freaking paying -270 for it, so we'll stick with the Canes. Not sure Linus Ullmark is the answer in net for the B's.
