Update: Papa Clem
One of the more intriguing contenders in the 2009 Preakness Stakes is Papa Clem, who has seen his odds rise from 6/1 to 10/1 in the matter of a week.
When oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction set the opening odds for the 134th running of the Preakness, Papa Clem was a mid-range favorite at 6/1. But since then his odds have risen to 10/1.
It’s hard to figure why Papa Clem’s odds would rise from 6/1 to 10/1 in just a short time because all indications are that he’s healthy and ready to roll. He had a decent showing at the Kentucky Derby, finishing fourth behind Mine that Bird, Pioneerof The Nile and Musket Man.
Considering he has had a couple of decent outings this season, Papa Clem could be a potential sleeper. He won on February 11 at the Arkansas Derby and also had two second place finishes in his two previous races before that. Throw in a first place finish in his last race of 2009 on December 29 at the Maiden Special Weight, there’s a lot to like about Papa Clem heading into the 2009 Preakness.
The 2009 Preakness Stakes takes place today at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. For complete odds see below, and for general information about this year’s race, be sure to check out our 2009 Preakness Stakes Viewing Guide.
