Gormley 10/1 to win Kentucky Derby
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Gormley’s odds to win on Saturday are 10/1, putting in the same company as Gunnevera. As of this writing, Always Dreaming is the current favorite at 4/1 to win the Kentucky Derby, while McCraken is 17/4 and Classic Empire is 5/1.
Other contenders with similar odds to Gormley are Irish War Cry at 8/1, Girvin at 14/1, and Irap and Pratical Joke, who are 15/1, respectively. Hence, Lookin At Lee, Patch, Tapwrit and Thunder Snow are all 20/1, respectively.
Gormley coming off victory
Gormley won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on April 8, beating Battle of Midway and Royal Mo in the porcess. He also has a win in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes and the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes, but also finished seventh in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and fourth in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes.
Southern Cali horses have had success
Horses based in Southern California have won four of the past five Kentucky Derbys according to Americas Best Racing.net. Victor Espinoza, Gormley’s rider, has won the Kentucky Derby three times (tied for third with six others) aboard War Emblem (2002), California Chrome (2014), and American Pharoah (2015), so don’t sleep on this colt come Saturday.

The 2017 Kentucky Derby will be the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby and is set for Saturday, May 6, 2017 from Churchill Downs. NBC’s coverage of the Derby will start at 2:30PM ET with the post time set for 6:34PM ET. Harry Connick Jr. will sing the National Anthem.
