Mor Spirit Kentucky Derby Preview
With the Kentucky Derby approaching on Saturday, here’s a look at how contender Mor Spirit stacks up against the rest of the field.
The Odds: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Mor Spirit has odds of 7/1 while Nyquist is favored at 14/5 and Mohaymen has the next-best odds at 9/2. Exaggerator and Gun Runner are also 6/1, respectively.
A Snapshot: Owned by Michael Lund Petersen and trained by Bob Baffert, Mor Spirit is the pedigree of Eskendereya – I’m A Dixie Girl by Dixie Union. In seven career starts, the 3-year-old colt has three wins with four second-place finishes and no third-place showings. Viewed as a plodder, the distance of the Kentucky Derby shouldn’t be an issue for Mor Spirit but the speed of the other contenders could be an issue.

Why Bet Mor Spirit: Because as previously mentioned, the distance on Saturday won’t be an issue. There have been countless contenders over the years that have displayed impressive speed, only to falter down the stretch and finish in the middle of the pack because they couldn’t handle the distance. That won’t be an issue for Mor Spirit, who hasn’t finished lower than second in any career race to date, which includes a second-place showing in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on April 9. (Mor Spirit finished behind fellow Kentucky Derby contender Exaggerator in that race.)
