Ice Box Updated Odds
Following a win at the G1 Florida Derby, 2010 Kentucky Derby contender Ice Box is looking to surprise at Churchill Downs.
Recent History:
As previously mentioned, Ice Box won the G1 Florida Derby with a 1:49.19 time on March 20. Previous to that race, however, he finished a disappointing fifth at the G2 Fountain of Youth on February 20, behind former Kentucky Derby favorite Eskendereya and current Derby contender Jackson Bend.
Ice Box was 18/1 to win the Kentucky Derby when the post positions were released on Wednesday of this week, but according to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, the 3-year-old is now 10/1.
Ice Box will start out of the No. 2 starting position, which has produced a respectable nine Kentucky Derby winners since 1900. Only the rail, the No. 5, the No. 4 and the No. 10 post positions have produced more winners.
Outlook:
There is plenty to like about Ice Box’s chances on Saturday, starting with his trainer Nick Zito, who has already won two Kentucky Derby races. Ice Box likes to close on leaders down the homestretch, which is beneficial for a race such as the Kentucky Derby. He’s coming off a six week layoff and probably won’t have enough speed to win in the end, but he should finish near the top.
