Fight Night Preview
The Saturday night fight from Las Vegas between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley is a great consolation prize to Manny Pacquiao. Here’s the scoop from BroburySports.com:
Mayweather was going to fight Pacquiao in March, but they couldn’t agree on the level of anti-doping testing. These two are expected to ‘get it on’ eventually and Brobury already has odds for the potential mega-bout with Mayweather a small -120 favorite.
Mayweather is the serious -365 favorite against Mosley, who’s putting up his WBA World Welterweight title. There’s also a prop of whether it lasts ‘over’ or ‘under’ 11.5 rounds. The ‘over’ is the heavy favorite there as well.
You can see why the 33-year-old Mayweather is favored. He has an unblemished record at 40-0, with 25 by knockout. He is six-time champion in five weight classes.
Mayweather had a TKO over Britain’s Ricky Hatton in December 2007. He then took almost two years off before getting a unanimous decision over Juan Manuel Marquez last September.
Mosley is 38 years-old with a 46-5 record. He last fought in January 2009, getting a TKO over the tough Antonio Margarito. He is fighting for just the third time overall in the last 30 months.
If you listen to the oddsmakers, Mayweather should win by a decision. He’s -200 for that ‘final result’ and +400 for a KO or TKO. Mosley is +700 to win by a decision and +750 for a KO or TKO. A draw is the most unlikely scenario at +1900.
Most people agree this would be a better fight if both were younger, and there is a rust factor on both sides. Mayweather deserves to be the favorite, but there could be a ‘live dog’ waiting for him the ring.
