2017 Belmont Stakes Payouts
Tapwrit pulled off a small upset in Saturday’s 2017 Belmont Stakes, pulling ahead of the favorite, Irish War Cry, down the stretch.
Emerging from the No. 2 post position, Tapwrit got a great trip and stalked Irish War Cry until the homestretch. Just when it appeared that Irish War Cry was going to win virtually wire-to-wire, Tapwrit pulled ahead late. Todd Pletcher-trained horses have fared well at the Belmont and Saturday was no exception.
The Belmont Stakes was Tapwrit’s fourth victory in eight career starts. He also won the Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby by 4 1/2 lengths. In the Kentucky Derby, he received a horrible trip but rallied somewhat to finish sixth.
As for Irish War Cry, who was a 7/2 favorite the morning of the race, he nearly pulled off the victory but didn’t have enough left in the tank. He finished runner-up to Tapwrit after a disappointing showing the Kentucky Derby. Patch passed Gormley late to finish third in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes.
A winning $2 wager on Tapwrit at his 5/1 odds paid out $12.60. If you wagered Tapwrit to place, that would have net you $6.50, and $5.00 to show. As for Irish War Cry, a winning $2 wager on him to place would have net you $4.70, while a $2 bet on his 5/2 odds would have been a profit of $3.90. Finally, a winning wager on Patch to show would have profited $6.50.
As for a $2.00 Exacta on Tapwrit and Irish War Cry, that paid out $45.20. A $1.00 Trifecta wager on Tapwrit, Irish War Cry and Patch paid out $312.00, while a winning $1.00 Superfecta of Tapwrit, Irish War Cry, Patch and Gormley netted bettors a whopping $2,243.00.
