Kentucky Derby Snapshot: Exaggerator
Can Santa Anita Derby winner Exaggerator pose a challenge to Kentucky Derby favorite Nyquist this Saturday?
The Odds: According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Exaggerator currently has odds of 9/2 to win Saturday’s Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs. Those 9/2 odds put Exaggerator behind only Nyquist, who is favored at 3/1, and are shared by fellow contender Mohaymen, respectively.
A Snapshot: Taking a look at the 2016 Kentucky Derby Standings, Exaggerator finished with 126 points, just four shy of Nyquist. On Saturday he’ll be ridden by Kent Desormeaux and his trainer is Keith Deormeaux. Big Chief Racing, Head of Plains Partners, Rocker O Ranch, et al are Exaggerator’s owners.
In nine career starts Exaggerator has four wins, two second-place finishes and finished third once for a career earnings mark of $1,671,120. He’s earned $185,680 per start and his pedigree includes Curlin – Dawn Raid, by Vindication. Exaggerator’s running style is that of a stalker.
Why Bet Exaggerator: Because he’s faced elite competition since early in his 2-year-old season, winning the Grade 2 Saratoga Special Stakes in his third start before finishing as the runner-up in the Grade 1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity. The 3-year-old Colt also finished fourth in the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and as previously mentioned, impressed many observers by winning the Santa Anita Derby by 6 1/4 lengths.
