West Conference Odds
As the 2009 NHL postseason is about to kick off, there’s a two-headed monster this year in the Western Conference.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the No. 2-seeded Detroit Red Wings 8/5 favorites to win the East.

Considering the Red Wings are currently defending Stanley Cup Finals Champions, it’s easy to understand why oddsmakers favor them to emerge from the Western Conference. Detroit is set to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets (18/1), a team that gave the Wings all they could handle in the regular season, beating them three times in six meetings.
Oddsmakers didn’t make the Wings massive favorites, as they established the odds for the No. 1-seeded San Jose Sharks at 7/4. The Sharks will take on the No. 8-seeded Anaheim Ducks in the first round; the Sharks beat the Ducks 4-2 in six regular season meetings.
The No. 3 seeded Vancouver Canucks have been made 5/1 long shots to win the Western Conference Finals this season. The Canucks play the Blues (25/1) in the first round of the playoffs after splitting the four game series with St. Louis during the regular season.
