Rams Fire Linehan
The winless St. Louis Rams fired coach Scott Linehan on Monday, the day after a fourth straight lopsided loss to start the season.
Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett will replace Linehan on an interim basis. The Rams scheduled a news conference later Monday.
“I have enormous respect for Scott Linehan as a person and believe under the right circumstances he will be regarded one day as a fine head coach,” owner Chip Rosenbloom said in a release. “Unfortunately, the situation with the Rams as they exist today is no longer acceptable and we have to make a change.”
Apparently it doesn’t matter who the Rams hire and fire – oddsmakers still consider them a long shot to win the 2009 Super Bowl no matter who’s in charge. Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global made the Rams a 50/1 at the start of the season and now that they’re 0-4, they have their odds to win at 200/1.
The Rams should benefit from the change, however, and it might not be a bad time to jump on them. Haslett does have head coaching experience (something Linehan did not) and he should be able to at least get the players re-focused to salvage what’s left of the 2008 season.
