If you’ve never heard of the Andretti family, then you just don’t know racing. Marco Andretti, racing for Andretti Green Racing, has been given 8/1 odds to win the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500 by oddsmakers at Online Sports Book Bodog.

Bet on Marco Andretti in the 2008 Indianapolis 500

Andretti disappointed on Indy 500 Pole Day in early May, qualifying seventh and placing him inside of Row 3 for the 92nd running of the event. What was even more frustrating is that in a morning practice session that day, he ran an unbelievable 228.318, which was faster than any other driver on the track. Following that running, it appeared that Andretti would be a shoe-in to get the pole, but instead he didn’t even qualify for the first two rows.

Andretti – a third generation driver – successfully broke on to the IRL scene in 2006 after three years of cutting his teeth in various junior formula series and the Indy Pro series. Marco became the third Andretti to finish in the top five in his very first Indianapolis 500 outing, placing 2nd to Sam Hornish Jr. in the second closest finish in Indy history.

In his first race this season at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Andretti finished an impressive second behind only Scott Dixon. However, he posted a DNF (did not finish) in his second race in St. Petersburg, which makes trying to predict how he’ll do Sunday a little trickier. He definitely has the experience and savvy to win, so at 8/1 odds he might be a great value pick and a slight sleeper.
