2008 Preakness Stakes Contender Stevil a Long Shot at 50/1 Odds to Win

Despite not even being originally scheduled to race in the 133^rd running of the Preakness Stakes Stevil should be happy being listed with any odds to win.

Pass falling victim to injury and Cool Coal Man’s 15^th place finish at the Kentucky Derby, Stevil was given the opportunity to compete in this years second jewel of the 2008 Triple Crown.

However, even though the invitation was extended oddsmakers from Online Sports Book Bodog still don’t like Stevil’s chances at the Preakness and have established his odds to win at 50/1. Part of the reason his odds to win are so long is because his Beyer Figure is 21 points below that of favorite Big Brown. (Stevil’s earned a Beyer Figure of 88 while Big Brown earned a 109.)

Bet on Stevil in the 2008 Preakness Stakes

Even though trainer Nick Zito has improved Stevil’s overall development and he will certainly be well rested, he doesn’t appear to have much chance to come out victorious at the Preakness.

Unfortunately with such a weak field there are several entries in the same boat as Stevil and any one of them have as much of a chance at the podium as he does. What ordinarily would be a horse to not consider in this event suddenly has become a possibility due to the lack of depth in the competition.

Stevil will start the 2008 Preakness Stakes from the number 9 post position.
