Weekend best bets: Pro sports bettors look to improve on 9-2 ATS records
      LV REVIEW JOURNAL SUBSCRIPTION

The Dolphins started the season a dismal 1-6 before winning and covering two of their last three games, including last week’s 30-13 blowout of the Bills as 8½-point underdogs.

The Commanders have lost five straight while going 0-5 against the spread after last season’s magical run to the NFC title game behind rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who is out after suffering a dislocated elbow.

Pro sports bettor Jeff Whitelaw made Miami his best bet as a 2½-point favorite over Washington in Sunday’s game in Madrid.

“They’re going in different directions,” Whitelaw said. “The Dolphins are starting to play better and the Commanders are playing terrible. They don’t have their quarterback.

“One team looks like they sort of quit and the other team looks like they’re playing hard for their coach (in Miami’s Mike McDaniel).”

      VIKINGS (-2½) over Bears

Pro sports bettors Chuck Edel (9-2 ATS on his RJ best bets) and Randy McKay expect Minnesota to bounce back from last week’s loss to the Ravens.

“The Bears have been fortunate with an easy schedule and not faced a lot of tough defenses,” said Edel (@chuckedel). “The record of the teams that the Bears have beat this year is 16-38.”

McKay noted the Vikings beat the Bears 27-24 in their season opener in Chicago.

“The Bears’ weaker defense will get exposed in the (indoor stadium),” said McKay (@RR39). “(Minnesota defensive coordinator Brian) Flores’ defense will have success versus (quarterback) Caleb Williams and the Bears offense. I expect a better game from Minnesota off the clunker last week.”

      Seahawks (+3) over RAMS

“Imagine a team that’s on a 4-0 straight up and against the spread run with a negative turnover differential. Don’t have to. It’s Seattle, 7-2 and firing on all cylinders,” said pro bettor Cris Zeniuk (@lasvegascris). “Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is having an MVP season, but he’s going to have to face some pass rush this week.

“Both teams are great this season, but my metrics like the gift of three points.”

      GIANTS (+7) over Packers

The Giants fired coach Brian Daboll this week and promoted offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to interim coach. Quarterback Jameis Winston will also start for New York instead of rookie Jaxson Dart, who is in concussion protocol.

“All changes are upgrades,” said Westgate SuperBook vice president of marketing Jay Kornegay, who leads the RJ NFL Challenge (30-19-1 ATS). “The Giants are turning the page and the Packers are starting to question each other. … I would expect this to be close at the end.”

      Air Force (+7) over UCONN

CBS Sportsline handicapper Bruce Marshall, 9-2 on his RJ best bets, made Air Force his play for the second straight week after the Falcons’ 26-16 upset of San Jose State.

“Like last November when winning its last four, the Force seems to be revving up down the stretch again,” Marshall said. “As for the Huskies, they’re off of a rousing win over Duke. … But sticking the Falcons and their unique option offense into the late stages of the UConn schedule without an extra week of prep time could put the Huskies at a disadvantage.”

MICHIGAN STATE (+7) over Penn State

“I like the Spartans’ platoon quarterback system. The best of both worlds. One can run and pass. The other is a traditional pocket passer. Both will have success,” said pro bettor Scott Pritchard (PritchardsPicks.com), on a 10-0 ATS run in the RJ College Challenge. “Penn State continues to have offensive line issues. Take the points. See the cashier.”

      Oklahoma (+6) over ALABAMA

The RJ College Challenge leaders have best bets on opposite sides of the Alabama-Oklahoma showdown. Gamblersworld.net handicapper Chip Chirimbes, who leads the contest (33-21-1 ATS), is backing the Sooners. South Point studio host Alex White (31-22-2) is taking the Crimson Tide.

“Bama quarterback Ty Simpson has 21 touchdown passes and only one interception, and that will be hard to beat, especially with the Tide looking for revenge off last year’s 24-3 (loss to Oklahoma) as a 13-point favorite,” said Chirimbes (@chipperwins). “But the Sooners’ run defense allows just (78.1) yards per game and will rely on a stellar defense to force errors.”

      ALABAMA (-5½) over Oklahoma

“While Oklahoma’s defense is one of the best in the country, the Sooners can be had through the air, where they rank 34th in the country, allowing an average of 200.3 passing yards per game. That is Alabama’s strength,” said White (@alexwhitee). “Alabama is the more consistent team and Oklahoma has not been the same since quarterback John Mateer’s hand surgery.”

College football betting trends — Week 12: Edge for UNLV-Utah State
Bruce Marshall is a handicapper for CBS Sportsline. He provides the Las Vegas Review-Journal with college football notes and trends.

Utah State at UNLV (-6, 70½): The Rebels crushed Utah State 50-34 last season but didn’t cover the spread after leading 41-7 at halftime. UNLV snapped a three-game spread skid in last week’s 42-10 win at Colorado State. The Aggies are 7-2 against the spread. Edge: Utah State.

Notre Dame (-12, 54) at Pitt: Notre Dame has won seven straight games since losing to Texas A&M on Sept. 13, though it has covered only two of its last five. The Fighting Irish were on a 4-0 under streak before going over in last week’s 49-10 rout of Navy. The Panthers have won and covered five in a row since true freshman Mason Heintschel became their starting quarterback. Pitt is also on a 4-1 over run. Edge: Slight to Pitt and over.

Michigan (-12½, 41) at Northwestern (at Wrigley Field): The Wolverines blasted the Wildcats 50-6 last season. Northwestern had its 5-0 cover streak end in last week’s 38-17 loss at USC. Michigan is on a 1-4 ATS skid and 4-1 under run. Edge: Northwestern and slight to under.

Arizona at Cincinnati (-6, 56½): Arizona is 6-3 straight up and could easily be 8-1, though it is on a 1-3 spread skid. The Bearcats are on a 5-2 spread surge and 6-2 over run. Edge: Slight to Cincinnati and over.

Oklahoma at Alabama (-6, 46): Revenge game for the Crimson Tide after they lost 24-3 at Norman last season to get knocked out of playoff contention. The Sooners have won and covered all three games as true visitors this year. They’ve gone over in their last two games after a 7-0 under streak to start the season. Alabama is on a 6-0-1 spread run overall and has won and covered five straight at home. The Tide are on a 5-1 under run. Edge: Alabama and slight to under.

Central Florida at Texas Tech (-24, 49): Central Florida is on a 2-5 spread slide as a visitor, including 0-3 this season. The Red Raiders have the nation’s best ATS mark at 9-1, and they’ve won and covered six straight at home. Edge: Texas Tech.

Iowa at USC (-7, 48): Iowa is on a 7-1 spread tear and has covered four straight as a visitor. USC is on a 9-2 ATS run at home, though it’s only 3-4 ATS in its last seven games this season. Edge: Iowa.

San Jose State (-9½, 49½) at UNR: The underdog has covered the last four meetings. The Spartans are on a 1-3 spread skid and 5-2 over run. The Wolf Pack have lost seven straight games and are on an 0-5-2 spread slide in Reno. UNR is also on a 6-2 under run. Edge: Slight to San Jose State and under.

Utah (-7½, 60) at Baylor: The Utes have beaten the Bears the last two years, going 1-0-1 ATS. Both games went under. Utah is 7-2 ATS this season and on a 4-1 over run. Baylor snapped a six-game spread losing streak Nov. 1 in its 30-3 win over Central Florida. Edge: Utah.

UCLA at Ohio State (-32, 47½): The Bruins’ 3-0-1 ATS run has evaporated in back-to-back losses (0-2 ATS). The Buckeyes finally lost a spread decision in last week’s 34-10 win at Purdue but they’re still 7-2 ATS this season and on an extended 11-2 ATS run. Edge: Slight to Ohio State.

Texas at Georgia (-6 49½): The Bulldogs beat the Longhorns twice last season, including the SEC title game. Texas has failed to cover its last two as underdogs (both against Ohio State). The Longhorns are on a 2-9 spread slide. Georgia has won five straight while going 4-1 ATS. Edge: Georgia.

TCU at BYU (-3½, 51½): The Horned Frogs are on an 0-6-1 ATS slide on the road in the Big 12. The Cougars had their 10-game winning streak end in last week’s 29-7 loss at Texas Tech. Edge: Slight to BYU.

Boise State at San Diego State (-3, 41): The Broncos have won and covered the last three meetings. Boise State had its 6-0-1 spread surge snapped Nov. 1 in a 30-7 loss to Fresno State. The Aztecs were on a 6-1 cover run before last week’s 38-6 loss at Hawaii. San Diego State is also on a 3-0 under streak. Edge: Slight to Boise State.

      Brandon Lang
The Pick: My 200 Dime winner is the Jacksonville State Gamecocks..

The Line: The current line is +3 at the majority of books in Vegas and offshore as of 10:30 am EST. Be sure to shop around for the best line available.

Note: If your line is anywhere from +2 1/2 to +4, I advise you buying the 1/2 point up on Jax State.

      My Analysis
Going right back to the well again tonight.

Well, it’s Deja Vu for the 2nd straight week.

Last Saturday in Conference USA I handed you a 100 dime winner on the Ragin Cajuns (+3) at home over Texas State and they won outright 42-39.

Well, it’s Deja Vu for the 2nd straight week.

Same Conference. Home dog. I expect the same result.

Now I get the fact Kennesaw has won 7 in a row since opening the season 0-2 with losses at Wake Forest 10-9 and Indiana 56-9.

And in this 7 game winning streak they have played only 2 road games but look who they beat.

Let’s start with 4-5 FIU, who has lost 4 of their last 6 and 3-6 New Mexico State, who after trailing 24-7 at the half, had multiple chances in the 2nd half to pull off the upset.

They held the Owls scoreless in the 2nd half and after getting it to 24-21, threw a pick at the KSU 35 with 3:25 to go and missed a 50-yard field goal to force OT with 32 seconds left.

In this winning streak, they have only beat one winning team: 5-4 Louisiana Tech.

For the life of me I can’t believe they are favored against this Jacksonville St team.

The Gamecocks are riding a 4-game winning streak and playing just their 4th home game of the year.

In the previous 3 they ripped Liberty 34-24 as a 6 1/2 point dog, ripped Murray State 45-10 and ripped Delaward 38-25 getting the same number they are getting today.

I know they say Kennesaw State has a solid run defense but against the #1 run defense in the conference, Jax State ran for 275.

This is a Jax State team that since joining division one are 22-12 SU and ATS including 11-3 ATS at home.

Conversely, Kennesaw State is still just 2-5 SU against winning opponents and 6-13 ATS in their division one history.

Last perspective: Last year when these two met Kennesaw State was a 17-point underdog…..and lost by 39 points!!!!!!

And they are laying points today????????

Just like last week, the wrong team is favored and I will gladly bring down the house with this monster play on the home team.

I will be shocked if the Gamecocks don’t win the game outright!!!!!!
