Notre Dame makes additions to coaching staff, Irish 25/1 to win 2016 playoffs

Notre Dame adds to staff

SOUTH BEND, IN (TheSpread) – Notre Dame made some additions to its 2015 coaching staff this week, including hiring a new offensive coordinator.

On Monday, the team announced that it has hired Mike Sanford to be the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Sanford is replacing Matt LaFleur, who left to coach with the Atlanta Falcons. The Irish also hired Autry Denson to coach the running backs, Keith Gilmore to coach the defensive line and Todd Lyght to coach the defensive backs.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Notre Dame is currently listed with 25/1 odds to win the college football playoffs. Ohio State is the favorite with 4/1 odds while Alabama is getting 7/1 odds to win.

Notre Dame is coming off an 8-5 season in 2014. The offense has some decent numbers, as they were 40th in scoring (32.8 points per game). The Irish were 19th in the nation in passing (285.5 yards per game) and 70th in rushing (159.5 yards per game). The key for Notre Dame has always been about quarterback play, which did improve in 2014 compared to 2013.
