PITTSBURGH (AP) – New Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi focuses on quality, not quantity during his first recruiting class with the Panthers.
Pitt added just 15 players on Wednesday, 14 incoming freshmen and quarterback Nathan Peterman, who is transferring to the Panthers from Tennessee. Narduzzi says trying to cobble together a class in a short period of time after taking the job in late December was difficult but he stressed he wasn’t going to sign a player just to fill out the roster.
Pitt’s biggest get is defensive back Jordan Whitehead, a star at Central Valley High in the northern Pittsburgh suburbs. Whitehead committed to the Panthers under former coach Paul Chryst and didn’t waver when Pitt lured Narduzzi away from his defensive coordinator job at Michigan State.
