Texans vs. Raiders Free Pick
OAKLAND, CA (The Spread) – The Texans will look to build off of their Week 1 victory over the Redskins when they visit the 0-1 Raiders at 4:25PM ET today.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Raiders are 3-point home underdogs versus the Texans while the over/under total is currently sitting at 40 points. This game opened as a pick’em before bettors started pounding Houston, while the over/under total opened at 38.5 before being bet up.
David Carr completed 20-of-32 passes for 151 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in his NFL debut, but the Raiders fell to the Jets 19-14 as a 6-point underdog. The Oakland running game was abysmal, as Darren McFadden rushed for just 15 yards on four carries and Maurice Jones-Drew (who has since undergone hand procedure) added 11 yards on nine carries. Rod Streator and offseason free agent addition James Jones caught the touchdown passes.
The Texans used a suffocating defense and the running prowess of Arian Foster to beat the Redskins 17-6 in their home opener last week. Foster rushed for 103 yards on 27 carries while the defense held Robert Griffin III to just 267 yards on 29-of-37 passing. Houston also forced two turnovers in the victory.
NFL FREE PICK: Take the under. According to latest NFL trends, the under is 4-0 in the Texans’ last four games dating back to last season and 10-2 in their last 12 road games versus a team with a losing home record. The under is also 4-1 in Houston’s last five games after allowing more than 350 total yards in its previous game and 5-2 in its last seven road games. On the other side, the under is 5-1 in the Raiders’ last six games in September, 9-2-1 in their last 12 home games dating back to last season, and 12-5-1 in their last 18 games versus AFC opponents.
