Jaguars vs. Eagles Free Pick
PHILADELPHIA, PA (The Spread) – The Eagles will begin their title defense of the NFC East when they host the Jaguars at 1:00PM ET. Will it be a high-scoring affair?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Eagles are 10-point home favorites over the visiting Jaguars, while the total is currently sitting at 52 points. Philadelphia opened as 10.5-point home favorites before the line was bet down, while the total opened at 52.5 before being bet down.
The Jaguars continue to add talent on both sides of the ball. They signed running back Toby Gerhart in free agency and also added defensive linemen Red Bryant and Chris Clemons from the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks. In the draft the team hopes that Blake Bortles will eventually be the starting quarterback and finally fill the void at the position, while receivers Marqise Lee of USC and Allen Robinson of Penn State should help incumbent starter Chad Henne immediately.
Chip Kelly’s Eagles took the league somewhat by storm a year ago and now it’s up to him to make adjustments and improve on a system that some will copy. Led by Nick Foles and running back Shady McCoy, the Eagles will once again have an explosive offense despite losing leading receiver DeSean Jackson (cut/Redskins). The defense has some holes, but it’s good enough for this team to have a great chance at defending its title.
NFL FREE PICK: Take Jacksonville. According to latest NFL trends, the Jaguars are 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games in Week 1 and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games on grass. The Eagles, meanwhile, are just 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games in September and 6-21-1 ATS in their last 28 home games. The Eagles should win, but the Jaguars are slightly underrated heading into the new year nad should stay within double-digits.
