Lady Byng Memorial Trophy Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The three finalists have been announced for the 2014 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. Now here are the odds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Ryan O’Reilly of the Colorado Avalanche is a 2/13 favorite to win this year’s Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. Patrick Marleau of the San Jose Sharks has the next-best odds at 5/1 while Martin St. Louis of the Eastern Conference champion New York Rangers is the current long shot at 14/1.
This is Marleau’s second nomination for the award and O’Reilly’s first. Ironically, even though he’s a heavy underdog to win the award this year, this is St. Louis’ fifth nomination and he’s already won the trophy three times. All three victories have come recently too, as St. Louis’ won the Lady Byng in 2009-10, 2010-11, and 2012-13.
O’Reilly played in 80 games this year, scoring 28 games with 36 assists and notching 64 points. Marleau, meanwhile, played in 82 games with 33 goals, 37 assists and 70 points, while St. Louis scored 30 goals and added 39 assists in 81 total games.
The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, formerly known as the Lady Byng Trophy, is presented each year to the NHL player “adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.” The trophy has been awarded 88 times to 53 different players since it was first awarded in 1925.
