AFC North Division Odds
(The Spread) – Will the Baltimore Ravens successfully defend their AFC North Division crown in 2013? Let’s check out the odds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Ravens and Steelers are both +190, respectively, on the money line to win the AFC North Division in 2013. The Bengals, meanwhile, are +200 to win the division and the Browns are the current long shots at +700.
Since winning the Super Bowl back in February of this year, the Ravens have gone through a whirlwind of changes. Gone are Anquan Boldin (traded/49ers), Ed Reed (FA/Texans), Dannell Ellerbe (FA/Dolphins), Paul Kruger (FA/Browns), Ray Lewis (retirement) and Bernard Pollard (released/Titans). Joe Flacco also received a massive new contract extension and the team signed free agent defensive end Elvis Dumervil, formally of the Broncos.
As for the Steelers, they lost Mike Wallace to the Dolphins via free agency, which makes quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s job that much harder. The defense is also another year older, although adding pass rusher Jarvis Jones via the first round of the draft should help Dick LeBeau’s unit stay productive.
The Bengals didn’t make many wholesale changes this offseason as they attempt to make the playoffs for the third straight year. The expectations continue to rise for third-year quarterback Andy Dalton, who now has a bevy of weapons at his disposal in receiver A.J. Green, as well as rookies Tyler Eifert and Giovani Bernard. The defense will once again be a strength for Cincinnati this season.
Finally, the Browns completely overhauled their coaching staff in the offseason. Rob Chudzinski was hired as the team’s newest head coach, while Norv Turner and Ray Horton were named his top assistants. But while the coaching staff has improved on paper and the defense remains an underrated unit, the success of this team will fall at the shoe tops of second-year players Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson’s development.
