49ers vs. Packers Week 1 Odds
GREEN BAY, WI (The Spread) – The marquee game on Sunday afternoon will take place in Green Bay when the Packers host the 49ers at 4:25PM ET.
SAN FRANCISCO: The 49ers were two fumbled punts by returner Kenny Williams from reaching the Super Bowl last season. The hope is that their outstanding defense and improved passing game will take the team to new heights in 2012. Alex Smith has a couple of new weapons to use, including Mario Manningham, Randy Moss and first-rounder A.J. Jenkins. The Niners’ offense will still focus on the ground attack of Frank Gore but they want to open the passing game and they hope Smith can take on more responsibilities.
GREEN BAY: The Packers had a great regular season in 2011 but a disappointing finish, as they were knocked out of the postseason by the eventual Super Bowl-winning Giants in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. But their defense should be much improved and their offense remains as dangerous as ever thanks to Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finley. The addition of Cedric Benson should pay dividends as well.
ODDS: The Packers opened as 7-point favorites but the line has since dropped to 5, even though 60% of the betting public favors Green Bay. The total is currently sitting at 45 points.
TRENDS: The over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these two teams in Green Bay, while the favorite is 7-3-2 against the spread in the last 12 meetings between these two teams. The Niners are 1-9-2 ATS in their last 12 games versus the Packers and 0-3-1 ATS in their last four trips to Green Bay.
