2012 NFL Week 1 Odds & Spread: Eagles big road favorites over Browns

Eagles vs. Browns Week 1 Odds

CLEVELAND, OH (The Spread) – Non-conference foes will square off in Cleveland on Sunday when the Browns host the Eagles at 1:00PM ET.

PHILADELPHIA: The Eagles spent big money in free agency last year to upgrade their roster and they didn’t even make the playoffs. But optimism remains high that Philly will cash in on its talent and make a run at the Super Bowl in 2012. That said, the health of Michael Vick is huge and will directly impact the Eagles’ success this season. If they can keep their quarterback upright, the Eagles will contend for the NFC East crown, if not a NFL title.

CLEVELAND: The Browns are seemingly starting over once again. They drafted an all-new backfield in the first round, nabbing Alabama running back Trent Richardson with the third overall pick and Brandon Weeden with the 22nd overall pick. Although Richardson had his knee scoped last month, the Browns are expecting that he’ll play this weekend. But even with a healthy Richardson in their backfield, Cleveland will have a difficult time competing in 2012. Weeden will certainly suffer some bumps and bruises along the way and the defense remains a massive question mark.

ODDS: The Eagles opened as 6.5-point favorites but the spread has climbed to 9 as 75% of the betting public favors Philadelphia in this matchup. The over/under total, meanwhile, is sitting at 43.5.

TRENDS: The Eagles are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. The Browns are also 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five games on grass. But Cleveland is 2-8-2 ATS in its last 12 home games and 1-11-1 ATS in its last 13 games in Week 1.
