Giants 2012 MLB Season Odds
(The Spread) – With a healthy Buster Posey back in the fold, the San Francisco Giants hope they can recapture the same magic that made them World Series champions in 2010.
Oddsmakers currently list the Giants’ 2012 World Series odds at 15/1 while their National League Pennant odds are 13/2. Their odds to win the National League West Division this year are 7/5, while their over/under for number of wins in the regular season is 87.
Even though they didn’t make any splash signings the Giants were active this offseason. They re-signed lefty relievers Jeremy Affeldt, Javier Lopez and Guillermo Mota, and also agreed to a one-year contract with free agent reliever Clay Hensley. Their other signings included Ryan Theriot, Eli Whiteside and Gregor Blanco (minor league deal).

Where the Giants were most active was on the trade front, where they acquired outfielder Melky Cabrera from the Royals in exchange for pitchers Jonathan Sanchez and Ryan Verdugo. The club also traded Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez to the Mets in exchange for centerfielder and leadoff man Angel Pagan.
Pablo Sandoval (three years, $17.15 million), Tim Lincecum (two years, $40.5 million), and Ryan Vogelsong (two years, $8.3 million) all received extensions from the Giants this winter.
OUTLOOK: It all depends on the health of Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez, and whether or not guys like Sandoval can stay healthy throughout the season. Posey is coming off a season-ending leg injury that sank the Giants’ postseason chances last year, while Sanchez was also lost for the year after he injured his shoulder. The pitching is obviously there, as Lincecum, Vogelsong, Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner form one of the best rotations in baseball. But will the additions of Cabrera and Pagan help what was the second worst offense in the league last season? Furthermore, can Aubrey Huff bounce back from a horrendous 2011 campaign or will manager Bruce Bochy finally give younger slugger Brandon Belt more at bats? Can Brandon Crawford at least hit .250 in order to somewhat balance out his tremendous defense at shortstop? There’s a lot to like about this Giants team and they’re only two years removed from winning it all. If the offense has improved, then look out.
