2012 Boston Red Sox MLB Season Win Totals & World Series Odds

Red Sox 2012 Season Odds

(The Spread) – Following their late-season collapse in 2011 the Red Sox went through a major overhaul this winter. Did they make the right changes to get back to the postseason?

According to oddsmakers, Boston is currently 9/1 to win the 2012 World Series and 9/2 to win the American League Pennant this season. The Red Sox are also +225 on the money line to win the American League East and have an over/under of 89.5 for total number of regular season wins in 2012.

Maybe looking to scrub the sour taste that was left in their mouths following the 2011 season, the Red Sox hired a new general manager, a new skipper and acquired a slew of new players over the winter. Gone is Theo Epstein and manager Terry Francona, in is Ben Cherington and Bobby Valentine.

In his first offseason with the BoSox, Cherington acquired pitchers Andrew Bailey and Mark Melancon, as well as outfielders Cody Ross and Ryan Sweeney, and infielder Nick Punto. Departing Boston are closer Jonathan Papelbon, infielders Jed Lowrie and Marco Scutaro, and outfielders J.D. Drew and Josh Reddick.

OUTLOOK: The Red Sox certainly have enough talent to outlast the Yankees and Rays in the AL East. Their lineup is well-rounded, with Jacoby Ellsbury providing plenty of speed at the top of the lineup, followed by Dustin Perdroia and sluggers Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz. If Carl Crawford can ever get healthy again and bounce back from his poor first year in Boston, the Sox’ lineup is going to be incredibly dangerous. Pitching wise, the top three of Jon Lester, Josh Beckett and Clay Bochholz is solid. It’s just a matter of everyone avoiding injuries and staying out of funks. The Red Sox can be their own worst enemy at times but this is a World Series contender when they’re firing on all cylinders.
