NHL All-Star Game Free Pick
OTTAWA (TheSpread) β The 2012 NHL All-Star Game takes place at 4PM ET on Sunday. Here is our free pick for the exhibition contest.
Sundayβs All-Star game takes place from Scotiabank Place and features Team Alfredsson taking on Team Chara. Oddsmakers have made Team Alfredsson the favorite in this game, giving them a money line of -125, while Team Chara has odds of +105 to win. The over/under for goals scored has been set at 18.
In this game it will be difficult to lean on one team or the other. Since the rosters are setup by a fantasy draft, there is no clear cut team to favor. Oddsmakers may favor Alfredsson for a few reasons. For one, team captain Daniel Afredsson is from the Senators, which is the team hosting the game.
Another way to look at the game is through goaltending. With both team having tons of scorers and the unlikelihood that either team will be playing much defense, goaltending is the only spot where the caliber of player may make a difference. Team Chara was the first to take a goalie, with Tim Thomas being the one selected. However, in a goalie vs. player matchup, that tends to favor the player at the All-Star level.
If you are truly looking to make some money off this game, I would look to the over/under total. 18 goals is a lot, but three of the last four All-Star Games have featured at least 21 goals. This is about a showcase of offense for fans and plenty of goals should be scored. Like I said before, goaltending is the only unpredictable aspect of the game, but in this day and age of the NHL, the scorers have the edge in a 1-on-1 with goalies. I feel very confident that at least 18 goals will be scored on Sunday.
