Broncos vs. Patriots Odds
FOXBORO, MA (The Spread) – Tim Tebow mania will take its act on the road tonight when the Patriots host the Broncos in the Divisional round of the 2012 NFL Playoffs.
DENVER: The Broncos were the only underdog to win on Wildcard Weekend, pulling off a stunning 29-23 victory against the Steelers in overtime. They were 9-point underdogs all week but the spread dropped to 7.5 points leading up to kickoff. Tim Tebow only completed 10 passes but they went for 316 yards and two touchdowns, including the 80-yard game-winner to Demaryius Thomas in overtime. Speaking of Thomas, the second-year player racked up 204 receiving yards on just four catches and finished with the one touchdown. Denver’s defense (which has been great all season) also finished with five sacks and forced three field goals.
NEW ENGLAND: The Patriots had one of the best scoring attacks in all of football this season. They finished second behind the Saints in yards per game (428.0), second in passing yards per game (317.8), and third in points scored (32.1). Tom Brady had another marvelous season, throwing for 5,235 yards and 39 touchdowns, while Wes Welker led the team with a whopping 122 receptions and 1,569 receiving yards. Of course, those two players took a backseat to the season Rob Gronkowski had, as the tight end amassed 17 touchdowns, 90 receptions and 1,327 yards. He was simply unstoppable most Sundays. Where the Patriots can be had, however, is on defense. They finished 31st overall in passing yards allowed and 17th in rushing yards allowed. Their issues step form an inconsistent pass rush and a suspect secondary.
NFL Odds: Oddsmakers have installed the Patriots as 13.5-point favorites over the Broncos, while the over/under total for Saturday’s 8:00PM ET kickoff is 50.5 points. Denver enters play with a 9-8 overall record and was 5-3 on the road this season, while New England is 13-3 overall and 7-1 at home.
TRENDS: The Broncos are 5-1 against the spread in their last six trips to New England, 9-1 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. The under, meanwhile, is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams in New England and 3-1-1 in the last five meetings overall.
