49ers vs. Rams Week 17 Odds

ST. LOUIS, MO (The Spread) – The 49ers can wrap up the No. 2 seed in the NFC with a victory on Sunday versus the hapless Rams.

SAN FRANCISCO: All the Niners need to do to secure home field advantage in the Divisional Round and a first-round bye is to beat a team that hasn’t won in over a month and a half. San Francisco had to rally to beat the Seahawks last Sunday in Seattle, but the Niners did walk away with a 19-17 victory. Good thing to, because the Falcons proved to be no match for the Saints on Monday night, so the win allowed the 49ers to stay ahead of New Orleans in the NFC by virtue of tiebreakers. San Fran is likely hoping to build a comfortable lead on Sunday and then rest starters Frank Gore and Alex Smith in the second half.

ST. LOUIS: The Rams have been out of playoff contention since about Halloween so the main talk in St. Louis nowadays is the coaching future of Steve Spagnuolo. Rumors are swirling that if/when the Rams fire Spags, he’ll take over for Juan Castillo as defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles next season. But while the rumor seemingly has legs, Spags still has his job in St. Louis (for however long that may be). With the Rams out of contention, they could ruin the Niners’ bid to secure the No. 2 seed in the NFC. While that’s just a tiny consolation prize in an otherwise miserable season, it’s something.
