Vikings vs. Lions Odds

DETROIT, MI (The Spread) – The Detroit Lions look  to get back on track and stay in the NFC wild card chase on Sunday when they host the Minnesota Vikings at 1PM ET on FOX.

DETROIT: The Lions are coming off a 31-17 loss to New Orleans last week. Detroit has now went 2-5 since a 5-0 start to the year. The Lions are tied for the wild card with Chicago and Atlanta at 7-5 on the season, but on the outside looking in right now because of a tiebreaker. The Lions are 3-3 at home and 6-5-1 against the spread this year. They have also hit the over in 7 of 12 games. Injuries have been an issue for the Lions as they are currently dealing with issues to running back Kevin Smith, who has a high-ankle sprain while defensive backs Chris Houston, Brandon McDonald, and Louis Delmas are all questionable with knee injuries. Add to that that Ndamukong Suh is suspended for the game and defensive tackle Nick Fairley is questionable with a foot injury, and it is easy to see why Detroit is struggling. The Lions do have one of the top offenses in the league as they are fourth in scoring at 27.8 points per game. The Lions are throwing for 281 passing yards per game thanks to Matthew Stafford. Stafford has thrown for 3,527 yards and 27 touchdowns this season, but also has 14 interceptions. Defensively, Detroit is giving up 23.1 points per game and 125 rushing yards per game.

MINNESOTA: Minnesota is coming off a 35-32 loss at home to Denver. The Vikings have now lost four straight and are just 2-10 on the season. Minnesota is 1-5 on the road and 4-6-2 against the spread. The Vikings have also hit the over 7 times on the season. Like the Lions, Minnesota has some injuries issues, mainly to running back Adrian Peterson, who is battling an ankle injury. Quarterback Christian Ponder is also hurt with a hip injury, and both are listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. The Vikings are averaging just 20.5 points per game on offense but have one of the top rushing games in the league behind Peterson. The Vikings back has rushed for 872 yards and 11 TD’s. Minnesota is second to last in scoring defense, allowing 27.5 points per game. The Vikings have had trouble stopping the pass, as they allow over 250 yards per game through the air.
