Chargers vs. Jaguars MNF Odds
JACKSONVILLE, FL (The Spread) – Two teams facing turnover this offseason will square off on Monday Night Football tonight when the Jaguars host the Chargers at 8:30PM ET.
SAN DIEGO: There have been rumors spreading over the past week that Chargers coach Norv Turner will be fired at the end of the season. The Bolts have once again underachieved this year, leading many to wonder whether or not Turner is the right man for the job. At 4-7 the Chargers are currently sitting in last place despite arguably owning the best talent in the AFC West. But that’s the thing: San Diego has been paper champions for too long. Philip Rivers has struggled mightily this year despite having Vincent Jackson for a full season and the Bolts are in the midst of a five-game losing skid. If they lose tonight, Turner may not make it to Tuesday.
JACKSONVILLE: On the other side of the field are the Jaguars, who have already fired their head coach. They gave Jack Del Rio the boot on Monday following a 20-13 loss to the Texans. Del Rio is partly to blame for the mismanagement of rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who clearly wasn’t ready to take over the offense in his first season as a pro. Despite having an underrated defense, Jacksonville has struggled to generate points this year and is 3-8 on the season. The Jags are also 4-6-1 against the spread and haven’t won since beating Indianapolis 17-3 in mid-November.
ODDS: Oddsmakers have installed the Chargers as 3-point favorites over the Jaguars, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 39 points. San Diego enters the day with a 4-7 overall record and is 1-4 on the road, while Jacksonville is 3-8 overall and 2-3 at home.
TRENDS: The over is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings between these two teams while the home squad is 4-0 against the spread in the last four meetings. The Chargers are 0-4 against the spread in their last four games versus the AFC and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a road favorite. The Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in their lat five games as a home underdog and 1-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record.
