Packers vs. Vikings Week 7 Free Pick
(The Spread) – NFC North rivals clash in Minnesota on Sunday when the Vikings host the undefeated Packers at 4:15PM ET.
GREEN BAY: The Packers kept their undefeated season alive last Sunday with a 24-3 win against the Rams. Aaron Rodgers had a perfect quarterback rating in the first-half before Green Bay took its foot off the pedal in the final two quarters and cruised to an easy win. The Packers are now 6-0 this season and 5-1 against the spread, which includes a perfect 3-0 mark at home and a near-perfect 2-1 ATS record on the road.
MINNESOTA: The Vikings were absolutely crushed by the Bears in Chicago last Sunday, 39-10. The loss was disappointing considering how poorly the Bears played in Detroit the Monday before and given that Minnesota was coming off its first victory of the year (a 34-10 win over Arizona in Week 5). Nevertheless, the loss marked the end of Donovan McNabb’s days as a starter in Minnesota, at least for now. Rookie first-round pick Christian Ponder will start for a Vikings team that is now 1-5 overall and 2-3-1 against the spread.

ODDS: The Vikings opened as a 6.5-point underdog at the Las Vegas Hilton but within a half hour the spread had jumped to 7…then 8…then 9, where it currently sits now. The over/under total has dropped from 47.5 to 46.5 with the announcement of Ponder’s promotion.
FREE PICK: Take Green Bay. There’s no need to over think this one. Ponder is making his first NFL start against the defending Super Bowl champions. Regardless of where the game is being played, that’s a lot of pressure for a rookie quarterback to overcome (especially a rookie quarterback whom many believed wasn’t worth selecting in the top 15). The Vikings’ secondary also looked horrendous against Chicago last Sunday so you get Aaron Rodgers in a dome playing against a suspect defensive backfield and bad things are going to happen. According to latest NFL trends, the Packers are 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games against Minnesota and 6-2 ATS in their last eight meetings overall. The favorite is also 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings between these two teams while the road squad is 13-5 ATS in the last 18 games.
