2011 NFL Week 5 Odds & Spread: Raiders vs. Texans on CBS

Raiders vs. Texans Odds

(The Spread) – One of the more underrated matchups on the Week 5 NFL schedule will take place in Houston on Sunday when the Texans host the Raiders.

The Raiders enter Sunday’s action with a 2-2 record after falling to the Patriots at home last Sunday, 31-19. That was the first time Oakland has failed to cover the spread this season and the only team they’ve played in a game where the combined score fell under the total.

The Texans, meanwhile, picked up a huge win against the Steelers last Sunday and are now 3-1 on the year. They’ve covered the spread in three of their first four games with the only non-cover coming on the road against the Saints in Week 3. Despite their weapons on offense, the combined score has fallen under the total in three of their four games this season. (Again, the lone exception was the New Orleans game.)

Oddsmakers have installed the Texans as 6-point favorites against the Raiders this Sunday, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 48.5 points. With the majority of the public backing Houston in this game, it’s a little surprising to see the line open at 7 and drop to 6. It’s also interesting that the total is 48.5 points despite the fact that the Texans have played under the total in three of their four games this year and considering Andre Johnson is out with an injury.

According to latest NFL trends, the Raiders are 1-5 against the spread in their last six games against the Texans but 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. The Texans, meanwhile, are 4-0 ATS in their last four games versus the AFC and 4-0 ATS in their last four games as a favorite.

Kickoff for this game is set for 1:00PM ET on Sunday and will be shown on CBS.
