2011 NFL Week 3 Predictions

(The Spread) – Check out our top 4 plays for Week 3 in the NFL.

After starting the season with a 3-1 record in Week 1, we crashed and burned in Week 2 while going 0-3-1. Some bettors had the Raiders at +3.5 and if so, they covered. But we had them at +3 in our picks, so it goes as a push in our records. We’ll try to rebound with a strong effort today.

Giants @ Eagles, 1:00PM ET

Nine points is way too high for a divisional matchup like this. The road team is 9-3 against the spread in the last 12 meetings between these two teams, while the underdog is 11-2 against the number in the last 13 meetings. Whether Vick plays or not, the Eagles’ offensive line is a major work in progress and while Eli Manning has struggled the first two weeks, the Giants will likely run the ball anyway. Where Philadelphia can be had is in its linebacker corps, so expect to see plenty of Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs in this game as the Giants try to play keep-away.

NFL WEEK 3 FREE PICK: NEW YORK GIANTS +9

Patriots @ Bills, 1:00PM ET

The road team is 5-0 against the spread in the last five meetings between these two teams while the favorite is 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings. The Patriots are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against the Bills and 7-0 ATS in their last seven meetings in Buffalo. Some bettors are going to look at this spread and jump all over the Bills with the way Buffalo has started 2-0. But the fact remains that Tom Brady and the explosive New England offense should have no problem moving the ball up and down the field against the Bills’ suspect defense and win by double-digits.

Chiefs @ Chargers, 4:05PM ET

Usually when a spread is this high in the NFL it’s smart to take the underdog, but the Chiefs have been outscored 89-10 in their first two games so it’s difficult to back them in their present state. According to latest NFL trends, the home team is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings between these two teams, while the Chiefs are 2-6 against the number in their last eight trips to San Diego. Kansas City is also 0-5 against the spread in its last five games versus the AFC west and 1-8 ATS in its last nine games against AFC opponents. Philip Rivers and Co. should be firing on all cylinders today.

NFL WEEK 3 FREE PICK: SAN DIEGO CHARGERS –14.5

Jets @ Raiders, 4:05PM ET

The home team is 4-1-1 against the spread in the last six meetings between these two teams, which suits an Oakland team that is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games versus the AFC. The Raiders are also 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games as an underdog. The Jets, meanwhile, are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS win and will have to travel cross-country for their first road game of the season. Oakland is better and has an explosive weapon in running back Darren McFadden. The Raiders should keep this game within a field goal.

NFL WEEK 3 FREE PICK: OAKLAND RAIDERS +3
