Jaguars NFL Season Odds
(The Spread) – The Jaguars may have found their quarterback of the future in April’s draft but for now, they remain long shots to win.
The Jaguars had to be somewhat surprised that Missouri signal caller Blaine Gabbert fell all the way to the No. 10 pick in the first round. Gabbert, whom some believed would go No. 1 to the Panthers, has great size, a strong arm and will eventually be the starter once he learns the ropes. But for now, David Garrard will still command the offense in Jacksonville.
The biggest question the Jags face heading into the 2011-12 season is whether or not star running back Maurice Jones-Drew ill be healthy. He’s still unsure if he’ll see any games this preseason due to a knee injury and although he should be fine in time for the regular season, whether or not he’ll be effective is the question. If he isn’t, then the Jacksonville offense could struggle mightily.

Oddsmakers currently list the Jaguars as 75/1 long shots to win the 2012 Super Bowl and 35/1 long shots to win the AFC this year. They also have the worst odds to win the AFC South (+700) and their over/under total for this in 2011 is 6, meaning oddsmakers don’t have much faith in Jacksonville to compete this season.
The Jaguars were somewhat active this offseason, adding linebackers Paul Posluszny (Bills), Matt Roth (Browns) and Clint Session (Colts). They also re-signed tight end Marcedes Lewis and added offensive linemen Jason Spitz (Packers) and Tony Moll (Ravens). But in the end, the Jags are still devoid of overall talent on both sides of the ball and will likely struggle to keep pace with the Texans and Colts in their own division.
