Seattle Seahawks Season Odds
(The Spread) – Due in large part to playing in a weak division, the Seattle Seahawks could make a return trip to the playoffs in 2011.
Of course, whether or not Seattle returns to the postseason is largely dependant on the play of the quarterback. The Hawks signed free agent Tarvaris Jackson to be the starter, but he was thoroughly outplayed by Charlie Whitehurst in the team’s first preseason game. Head coach Pete Carroll says he is not opening up the position to competition, and that decision may wind up hurting him and the team this season.
That said, oddsmakers clearly aren’t buying into either Jackson or Whitehurst, because the Seahawks are currently listed as 75/1 long shots to win the 2012 Super Bowl. Seattle is also 40/1 to win the NFC, +500 to win the NFC West and has an over/under total of just 6.5 wins for the 2011 season.

Along with Jackson, the Seahwks also added free agents Zach Miller (Raiders), Robert Gallery (Raiders) and Sidney Rice (Vikings), as well as re-signed Leon Washington, Mike Williams and LeRoy Hill. So they do have a chance to be improved this season if these signings pan out.
But once again, everything is dependent on whether or not they get enough consistency and production out of the quarterback position. Teams usually don’t make the playoffs when they have to bounce back and fourth between quarterbacks so unless Jackson or Whitehurst step up, you can expect a new NFC West champion this season.
