Norman Asbjornson Preakness Odds
(The Spread) – As we continue on with our 2011 Preakness Preview this week, today we look at midrange long shot contender Norman Asbjornson.
View Real-Time Sports Betting Odds
Odds: Norman Asbjornson opened at +1000 to win the Preakness but now oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com list his odds at +1500. That ranks him with fellow midrange long shots Flashpoint (+1400) and Sway Away (+1500). Animal Kingdom, who won the 2011 Kentucky Derby, is currently favored to win the Preakness Stakes at +200.
Race History: While his back-to-back wins in his home state of Pennsylvania garnered him some attention in December and January, it was his effort in consecutive outings in New York that earned Norman Asbjornson a trip to Maryland. He placed second at the Grade 3 Gotham on March 5 and fourth at the Grade 1 Wood Memorial on April 9.
Outlook: Norman Asbjornson is the son of 1998 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Real Quiet, so he’ll garner some attention on breed alone. But aside from that, this is a horse that appears to be improving each time out and he might be ready to crack the top 3 in his first Triple Crown race of his career. He’s also right in that odds range where he could be considered a sleeper.
