According to oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, the Packers are 1.5-point favorites in the second half against the Steelers, while the over/under total is currently 22.5 points.
Just like we wrote for the first half odds, the Packers are 3-point favorites over the Steelers, so it’s not surprising that they’re odds in the secind half are –1.5. The line appears to be staying steady at 3, but you never know which way the public or sharps will move the line in Vegas and how that will affect the online books.
If you want to reference previous Super Bowls when it comes to the second half odds, the Colts scored 13 points to the Bears 3 in the second half of the 2007 Super Bowl and eventually won 29-17. Indy was a 6.5-point favorite in that game and covered rather easily despite allowing Devin Hester to return the opening kickoff for a touchdown.
In the following Super Bowl, the Cardinals outscored the Steelers 16-10 in the second half to cover both the game and second half spread. Pittsburgh was a 6.5-point favorite in that game, but needed a late touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Santonio Holmes to secure the victory.
In last year’s Super Bowl, the Saints outscored the Colts 25-7 despite trailing 10-6 at halftime. New Orleans won outright as a 4.5-point underdog and easily covered both the game spread and the second half line.
Other spreads to note in Super Bowl XLV is that the Packers are –0.5 favorites in the first quarter at +120 juice, while the Steelers are +0.5 with –140 juice for the first quarter. So clearly oddsmakers feel as though Pittsburgh will be ahead or tied after the first quarter of play.
