Steelers Defensive Player Props
ARLINGTON, TX (TheSpread) – The Pittsburgh Steelers have a stout defense and typically find ways to make big plays. Here is a look at some prop odds for the defense for Super Bowl XLV.
View Current Super Bowl XLV Odds
Pittsburgh has one of the top defenses in the NFL. They rank first in the league in scoring defense (14.5 points per game) and rushing defense (62.8 yards per game). They also give up 214.1 passing yards per game and have 21 interceptions and 20 forced fumbles. As a team, they lead the league in sacks with 48.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook SBGGLOBAL.com currently have over/under numbers for a variety of defensive players. Linebacker James Harrison has an over/under of 6 for tackles and 0.5 for sacks for Sunday’s game.
On the season, Harrison had 100 tackles and 10.5 sacks. In the playoffs he is averaging 7 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Harrison was third on the team in tackles and first in sacks. He has had at least 7 tackles in 7 of 17 games he played in. I expect Harrison to be a factor, but for Green Bay to look more to the passing game than the run, which could limit his tackle numbers, but increase his odds of a sack. If I had to pick, my bet would go on over for sacks for Harrison.
Another key defender for Pittsburgh is the Defensive Player of the Year, Troy Polamalu. For Sunday’s game, he has over/under odds of 4.5 tackles and he has a betting line of +220 to intercept a pass and -300 to not. Polamalu had 63 tackles and 7 interceptions this season. He had at least 5 tackles in 9 of the 16 games he played in. Polamalu also had an interception in six games, but has yet to get one in the playoffs. Polamalu’s interceptions came against Tennessee, Buffalo, Oakland, Cincinnati, and Cleveland. Aside from Matt Ryan in Atlanta, all of the other quarterbacks are rather questionable. I don’t like his chances to pick off an Aaron Rodgers pass on Sunday without a little help. I do like his odds to get at least 5 tackles though, as the secondary will be a big part of the defensive effort.
