Lions vs. Cowboys Odds

The Dallas Cowboys showed signs of life last week in a dominating win, but can the Cowboys get their first home win of the year on Sunday when they host the Detroit Lions?

The Cowboys and Lions are both 2-7 on the season with the Cowboys 0-4 at home and the Lions 0-5 on the road. Trends show that the Lions are 4-0 against the spread in their last four against the NFC while the Cowboys are 1-6 ATS in their last seven against the NFC. The over has hit in four of the last five games between these two teams.

Oddsmakers from online sportsbook Sportsbook.com have made Dallas a 6.5-point favorite at home against Detroit on Sunday. The over/under has been set at 47. (View Matchup).

Opening odds had Dallas favored by 9 points but the spread quickly dropped and is now down to 6.5. The over/under total opened at 46 and added a point throughout the week.

The Cowboys ended a five-game losing streak last week with a 33-20 win over the Giants in their first game under interim coach Jason Garrett. Jon Kitna has played well in replace of injured quarterback Tony Romo this year. Kitna has thrown for 1,076 yards and seven touchdowns this season. The Dallas offense is averaging 21.6 points per game, but the rushing attack has been disappointing, posting just 78.7 yards per game. The Dallas defense has been poor too, allowing 28 points and 354 yards per game.

The Lions have dropped two straight, with both losses coming by a combined five points. The Lions also lost quarterback Matthew Stafford during the stretch due to a second shoulder injury. Shaun Hill has filled in and thrown for 1,632 yards and 10 touchdowns through seven games. As a whole, the Lions’ offense is posting 23.9 points and 336.2 yards per game, but like Dallas, their rushing attack is weak, averaging 81.1 yards per game. On defense, the Lions have 25 sacks, but they are giving up 22.4 points and 353 yards per game, including 130.2 rushing yards per contest.

In terms of injuries, Detroit defensive end Cliff Avril is doubtful for Sunday with a leg injury while backup running back Kevin Smith is out because of an injury to his thumb. Dallas cornerback Terence Newman is questionable with an ankle injury.

Over 25,700 public bets have been placed on this game and Dallas is getting 60% of the wagers at -6.5 against the Lions on Sunday.
