The Women’s Super Combined Alpine Skiing Event tests skiers in slalom and downhill, and is one of the opening events of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The combined event consists of one downhill run followed by one slalom run using a shorter course. The times are added together. The fastest total time determines the winner.

2009 world champion in the slalom, Maria Riesch, is favored to win this event.

Riesch has odds of 7/4 to win the gold medal in this event according to online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com. Other short odds to win are Anja Parson (7/2), Lindsey Vonn (15/4), and Kathrin Zettel (11/2).

Riesch competes for

Germany and won the 2009 world title in slalom. She also won the 2008 World Cup for the combined.

Parson competes for

Sweden and is the 2006 bronze medalist for this event. She has won Olympic gold in the slalom in 2006. She is the 2007 world champion for the combined.

Vonn competes for the

United States and is one of the country’s biggest hopefuls to win gold. She has won four different medals in world competition but neither were for the combined. Vonn is dealing with a shin injury that could also hamper her ability to compete at 100 percent.

Zettel is an Austrian skier that is the defending world champion. It was her first major world victory in the combined event.
